Anyway to take down the number of trees Tes4LODgen is making

Post » Fri Dec 02, 2011 5:27 am

The errors from Elsweyr are normal. A load of trees have been set to scale 0 to prevent them being rendered in LOD ( 0 = Null).

Tweaking those settings are part of setting up Streamline correctly. Steamsight is the most useful part of Streamsave in my opinion - if you don't use Streamsight, I don't believe there's really much point in using Streamline.

Huh? The Streamsmooth feature still works wonders for me...
Thats good about those errors then- now i just have to figure out why i get so many CTDs in Elsweyr....

I have Streamsmooth disabled, it's what I find to be the least desirable aspect of Streamline. Having things continuously fading in and out all around is not at all appealing to me :)

No, they're not normal. The copy I'm running from, which hasn't been altered from the download other than to clean+undelete, does not generate any errors at all during tes4lodgen. That has to somehow be the result of something the heightmap patches are doing.

They are normal, but they're not from Elsweyr Deserts of Anequina. They're from Onra's heightmaps IIRC, specifically the one relating to Elsweyr.

That doesn't make it normal just because another mod broke something - and zero scale items are broken. Since her heightmaps for Elsweyr are supposed to be dependent on Elsweyr it makes no sense to have short circuited tree references.

No, zero scale items are hidden from LOD, since disabling them didn't hide them and deleting them is not desirable. They're not broken, they're just nulled. And null-scale objects produce an error in TES4LODGen because null scale objects were not considered by Elminster as something likely to be done by a modder, so TES4LODGen doesn't accommodate the possibility and throws up an error. So it is normal, because that's the best TES4LODGen can manage when it comes across null-scaled objects until Elminster updates to take this into account.

His heightmaps are dependent on the Elsweyr-Anequina mod, and removes a whole bunch of trees from the desert, since trees shouldn't be appearing VWD in a desert.

I can agree to that, but i think as long as you tweak it heavily to just the right settings, the performance boost it gives just when you need it can be helpful. At least it is on my computer.

I disagree. IME, using just Streamsave and Streampurge (in concert with many another mod and utility) has been ideal.

Why shouldn't trees appear VWD in a desert? That doesn't make much sense. Also, doesn't zero-scaling them cause them to be invisible if you're up close too, since, well, you're telling the game to make them infinitely small?

Trees shouldn't appear VWD in a desert when the trees aren't there when close-up. Yes, zero-scale makes them invisible when close-up, hence the reason to not have them VWD either.

I guess I must be missing the reasoning for zero-scaling the trees if they exist to begin with. I think we should probably leave it at that before we end up going in circles over it :)
