~AOF's Paint Bucket~

AOF: looking good I like that you use the same color tones as Bethesda in your textures.

I think the original had a bit more of a reddish tint and maybe a bit more desaturated. However I am trying to keep with the original color scheme to some extent. :)

I greatly enjoyed looking at your wall textures. Very effective layering technique. :-)

Did you do the ground textures too? I thought the size of the overgrown stones in Balmora made them stand out a bit too much. (I used the same image for one of the textures in my Daedric retex and eventually shrunk the stones to approximately 50% of their original size).

Thanks, I have learned some really cool new tricks in photoshop while doing these textures. :)

No I haven't ever made any ground textures, I am just doing architecture at the moment. I agree with your opinion however.

Heh, maybe you should give it a try someday, it's a quite good game...

Haha, I didn't say I haven't ever played it. ;)

So, on to an update.....

I redid the textures a bit, but pretty much look the same I suppose. :D

I like the distressed look - though I was wondering if you might possibly think about doing another variant as well - the rundown look seems perfect for Labor Town however would High Town and possibly the commercial district have a slightly better render on their walls? I know this would require a mod to change the mesh id's of those particular buildings so as to have a seperate texture but it could look quite unique to have a better differentation between hightown and labor town

The texture looks great by the way - full of character :)

I cant seem to stay happy with the Hlaalu textures..... I have redone them 5 times now, 2 versions of which I haven't shown. :D

Here is what I have for the latest.....

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v217/AnOldFriend/Hlaalu9.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v217/AnOldFriend/Hlaalu8.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v217/AnOldFriend/Hlaalu10.jpg

Maybe this will be the final.... not sure yet. :D

Edit:

@Illuminiel~ I am not so sure I want replace certain buildings, but it might be a possibility. Right now I am just trying to come up with a texture that I will be happy with in the end.

You could release each version and let people chose which one to use... ;) I like the last one, but the previous was fine too...

Too many splits inside and outside, rock jointing is too big. IMHO, maybe you can make not many splits?

the first in the post before was too bright for me, on the other hand balmora high town and down town could be different all considered.

the last ones I like, also it play a part if/what lighning mod you use,and if you mucked with the settings your self and how much.
but keep the "cracks" ,I like them, specially in down town.

Updated first post with download link for Hlaalu textures.

Next up will be Imperial, I have a pretty nice idea for them I think if I can pull it off the way I envision it. :)

Here is a quick teaser for the imperial...

I like it! The ivy will work well for regions like Ascadian Isles, West Gash, and Grazelands - I'll probably stick with non-ivy textures for arid / cold regions tho.

Its been a while since I have updated this thread, but I finally have an update. I decided to work on the imperial housing rather then on the imperial castle. I have also done some other random objects which I will release seperately.

So here are some progress screens. :)

Exterior:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v217/AnOldFriend/Imp_housing5.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v217/AnOldFriend/Imp_housing4.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v217/AnOldFriend/Imp_housing1.jpg

Interior:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v217/AnOldFriend/Imp_housing6.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v217/AnOldFriend/Imp_housing3.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v217/AnOldFriend/Imp_housing2.jpg

A couple more textures need doing and the first portion of what is shown on the screens will be released. I will release the misc. objects when I am done with those. :)

Edit: New screenshots added due to the gift of the knowledge of Fraps which better shows how I intend the textures to be displayed. :foodndrink:

These textures look really impressive, now there are even more great options for textures (so hard to choose...)

Basically what I'm saying is that your work is most impressive.

If you like, you can donate to TESNexus and become a Premium Member, which gives you faster downloads and less advertisemants.
Anyone can download any file as a Normal member, although most downloads do require that you log in. Registering is free, just like with PES.

Back on topic, these are looking great AOF. I'm loving the amount of detail with the cracked plaster and bricks.

Eh. What a Hack! :biglaugh: Just kidding. Looks really nice. As Syrcanus said, probably the best I've seen as well. (Too bad they don't look like that on my POS comp). Maybe I'll steal them and throw them on my tower. :D

To the author. It is my strong opinion you need more mipmaps. Yes, I have read the thread and your comments on that, so bear with me.

Illustration: try and set "mipmap bias" to -3 (or beyond) in MGE. It will undoubtedly look horrifying - especially in motion. That is aliasing. What, in effect, you are doing by limiting the number of mipmaps to 3 is very similar. It could be described as a negative mipmap bias, which starts at certain distance and increases with it.

To prevent the 'soft look', you need (1) to sharpen the lower mipmaps, (2) enable AF, and if it's not enough, (3) apply a bit of negative bias. My preference is -1 with 16AF.

Having said all that, the textures themselves are simply brilliant, very detailed, and have a certain feel which is close to the original, but is a bit more sinister and rough - just as I like it.
