[RELz] AOF Potions Recolored

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1079452-wipanoldfriends-potions-plugin/

I apologize for the delay to everyone who has been waiting on this, but at last it is here - http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8502.

Also, Sister's original version of this mod is in German and can be downloaded here - http://www.worldofelderscrolls.de/?go=dlfile&fileid=193.

Most of the credit for this mod goes to AnOldFriend3, who created the beatiful potions in this mod. Also a great deal of credit goes to Sister who re-colored AOF's textures for the different schools of magicka, created icons for all of the potions, and inspired me to do this. I have simply put their work together, editing all of the potions in the CS to use their artwork and re-positioning the potions in the game world to avoid clipping.

This version of AOF's Potions is an expansion of the work released by AnOldFriend3. It is primarily a cosmetic mod which replaces all of the game's magical potions with new beatiful potions made with the skillful hands and creativity of AnOldFriend3. In addition to AOF's previous work, this version includes different colored potions for the different schools of magicka with textures and icons done by Sister, and it re-positions (hopefully) all of the potions in the game to avoid clipping issues.

This version of the mod only corrects clipping issues for mods in the vanilla game, later versions will correct clipping issues for potions in areas added by the Tribunal and Bloodmoon expansions. Any bugs should be reported in this thread or in a PM to me. For example, if you find a potion somewhere in the game world that is clipping with a table or something around it then please notify me of this so I can correct it in a future release.

Here are some screen shots, provided by Sister - http://i974.photobucket.com/albums/ae224/mwscreen/_aof_screen_05.jpg http://i974.photobucket.com/albums/ae224/mwscreen/_aof_screen_04.jpg http://i974.photobucket.com/albums/ae224/mwscreen/_aof_screen_03.jpg http://i974.photobucket.com/albums/ae224/mwscreen/_aof_screen_02.jpg http://i974.photobucket.com/albums/ae224/mwscreen/_aof_screen_blank.jpg http://i974.photobucket.com/albums/ae224/mwscreen/_aof_icons.jpg

I'm surprised by the lack of response or comments on this release so far.
I've installed it and will just say I got quite the shock when I walked into the mages lab in Yorick's Tower.
Where I had a display cabinet full of various mundane looking alchemy potions I now have a wonderful collection of bottles in all shapes and sizes.
It's so easy to differentiate the brews now.

Luv it.

I had been looking for a potion replacer that would change the huge, bulky vanilla bottles, and this is my favorite. The potion bottles are absolutely stunning. Very nice work.

If you are going to release an update, I have some suggestions.
Homemade potions have the new bottles, but use the old icons.
For bottles that do not have a metal base, the glass clips with the surface the potions are place on.
This is just my opinion, but the icons don't do justice to the potion bottles. I think the colors are too saturated and the size of the cheaper potions look too large compared to the more expensive ones.

Not big issues, but if you are planning another release, maybe these can be looked into.

Again a big hug and thank you Bycote for releasing this! Without you it would not have been possible to release this for the english community :celebration:

There have been plenty in the wip-thread :)

Yeah, I did this on purpose to have them easily divided from the bought or found ones.

That's a texture thing, I don't know how to avoid it. Maybe AOF does?

Making the icons was my very first attempt to create something. I was not very practised (and still am not) and had to do it on my own, since no one who was practised was able to help me making them. I had lots of wonderful and lovely helpers who told me how to do this, just before I did it I had no clue about making icons or anything. In the german version I apologize for the icons and told the people that I'm no artist - the artist of this mod is AOF. But I have no idea how to make the icons better, because making them the way they are was quite enough hard work for me.

But thanks for your suggestions anyway :)

Thanks for bringing that up Dormouse, and for the record I actually did notice that before the release. I had a quick look in the CS and didn't find any way to change the icons for homemade potions so I decided to release the mod as-is and figure it out later. I believe what I have to do is replace the vanilla icons with Sister's, correct? If so, then I will certainly get around to this in a future release. Sorry Sister, I understand why you did it that way on purpose, but I like your icons and I want to see em! ;^)

edit - I think I actually may have two or three hours of free-time today to work on this so *fingers crossed* hopefully I'll be able to take care of the Tribunal and Bloodmoon expansions, then play around with replacing those icons! :^) Right now it's time for a shower and sleep...

Aw, shucks! *blush*

Thank you Sister for making the original mod in German and giving me the idea and resources to make this. Without you, this mod wouldn't exist in any language! :^)

Okay since I have all the raw material i'll send the icons to you so you can update the files.

For bottles that do not have a metal base, the glass clips with the surface the potions are place on.

Thanks again for your reports Dormouse. Today I corrected this issue for hundreds of potions in the game by lifting them up a tiny bit above the surface they are sitting on. They are lifted such a tiny amount that it should never be noticeable and because they're not in contact with the surface, they no longer appear to be clipping. Unfortunately, potions placed by the player character in the world may still suffer from this issue. If we are very lucky, maybe AOF will update his meshes to resolve this problem completely.

Also, with thanks to Sister, the issue with the home brewed potions' icons has been corrected.

Today I also had time to correct clipping issues for potions in areas added by the Tribunal expansion. I did not have time to check the areas added by the Bloodmoon expansion.

Somebody on PES requested a "lite" version of this mod that does not include the changes to potions' positions in the game. I have decided against this, but in the next release of this mod I will use Wrye Mash to date the plugin 2001 so it loads early in people's load order and therefore will not conflict with any other mods.

I do not know for sure when I'll next have an opportunity to work on this. Hopefully I'll have some time Thursday, but it may have to wait until this weekend. Anyway, the next release shouldn't be too far away. :^)

I've just uploaded version 1.1 to PES - http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8502

I've corrected clipping issues for potions in areas added by the Tribunal and Bloodmoon expansions. I've also corrected the issues reported in this thread by Dormouse regarding bargain/cheap potions clipping with surfaces and home brewed potions not using Sister's icons.

If anybody else has anything else to report, please feel free to do so. Otherwise, just enjoy the mod and AOF's beautiful artwork. With any luck, we may be seeing some future updates to this from him, but I'm afraid I've done all I can with this.

I am planning several other projects. Unfortunately I do not have the time to do very much modding these days. :^(

If you see another release from me any time soon, it will probably be a very simple expansion to the "all boat ports" and "all silt strider ports" mods. Sorry, but that's about it. :^)

If I had more time I would love to expand the game's shallow dungeons and increase the difficulty of encounters with many of the game's more powerful NPCs (such as those guarding artifacts). Alas, this project will probably never be more than a dream of mine as I have far too little time to make any headway on such a project.

I just made a tiny update to this mod that I forgot to include in version 1.1. Now, in version 1.11, the ESP files are dated with Wrye Mash so they load very early in your load order to prevent the changes I've made to interior cells (repositioning potions) from conflicting with mods that make more drastic changes to those same interior cells.
