Apectacle Island

Post » Sat Jan 09, 2016 4:13 pm

So I swam to the island arriving at a point turned out to be the boat that powers all. Clicked the clickers and fought my way to the place I was supposed to go. Clicked on some more and picked up the note. Nothing changed, even though I'd killed everything around.

Rinse and repeat. But read the note. My power is going on, cos there is lighting in the place. But no siren and no activation of the workbench.

Tried a number of suggested console commands to no avail. And no I only operate on quicksave. I shouldn't have to substitute a do-over save game for bug fix.

I do read that a number of people have had this bug, but going back 90 pages on this forum offered no thread, nor any solutions.

Any help is welcomed.

Sorry for the spelling error. Spectacle Island. Today I buy a new keybaord and dictionary

Did you check to see that all the wires are connected to the generator, and then activate the tower?

EDIT: Not certain, I think you have to actually turn the generator on, just follow the wires to it.

I didn't see where there were wires to attach. Everything actionable I touched. So I am sure this is it. Where are the wires? And why would the lights go on an off if there was no power?

Thanks

Spoiler

Did you turn on the switch next to the workbench? When you flip that switch, you will have to wait a second, before it "rumbles" to life. It will make a strange sound when it kicks in. After that you won't hear it anymore, it's just a quiet hum. If you did that and you still can't use the workbench, then I would look around the island to see if you still need to kill a Mirelurk somewhere.

I actually went first to the boat, powered the generator and then used sneak mode to get to the workbench. When I turned on the switch there, it cleared all the Mirelurks from the island and I could use the workbench.

When I did it,

Spoiler
it didn't actually clear the island of mirelurks. the Queen and two or three others just moved a fair distance away from the tower to the water's edge, and I had had to hunt them down and kill them before I could use the bench. It was funny though... watching a queen morelurk run like a rabbit away from my character who was only wearing camo undies...

The wires are large black power wires that run from

Spoiler
the tower shack to the boat where the generator is.
Remember, the note says to check the connections, eh?

I spent quite long cleaning this island. It seems you can't get the siren on?

Trace the cables, try to unattach one and reattach it. Then restart the power switch (if it's possible)

Yeah, just bear in mind when cleaning, that some of the wires are attached to trees......

Ok, have done all of the above, and cleared all the mirelurks, king, queen, duke, prince, all the hatchlings - the whole shebang.

Turned all the switches on and off. Get the non-functional message in the tin hut.

Get nothing in the boat, except for the light going on and off.

I see no way of attaching or detaching the cable. It runs into the walls/engine and attaches up on the posts. Too high to interact with. It all looks fine when it all turns on, however its not. I don't get the engine hum at the start, nor any response when I standing the water. I don't see a breaker flipping over in the boat. Like I do in the hut. I suspect that is where the problem lies. But nothing is interactive that I haven't interacted with.

Yes I saw the note about the connecting wires. Did you have to connect a wire? If not, then I suggest its just theater for the note. If you didn't have to connect, then I suspect I wouldln't have to either. We bought the same version of F4 didn't we?

I just went back and re-did it all again and still no joy. I swum under the boat, climbed over the boat, went in the boat. I cleaned it out and swabbed the becks. Nothing has worked. Turned over the switches. Counted to 3. So far.

You can't clean anything until the work bench is activated. So that is not an issue.

Has anyone here been able to attach or had to attach a cable?

Yes I found that out the hard way. Ended up having to erect my own pylons. There is a switch circuit behind the workbench (maybe one on the ship too) that you have to operate to make the circuit).

On the boat on the generator there is a circuit box that must be opened. Inside is the switch for the generator. I assume that you did this since you say you killed the queen?

When you flip the breaker in the boat, there's no rumble of the generator starting up?

If that's the case, that sounds like a broken quest object to me.

To unlock Spectacle Island as a settlement you need to:

a) Flip the circuit breaker on the tugboat's generator.

B) Clear any mirelurks that surface from the sound of the generator starting up

c) Proceed to the hut with the workbench in it and flip the circuit breaker for the sound system.

d) Survive the next wave of Mirelurks and then kill them as they're running away from the sound.

e) Interact wtih the workbench.

If that doesn't work, then the quest is bugged and likely difficult to correct even with console commands. Good luck.

According to the Fallout 4 Wiki, these are the known bugs:

Even after turning the power generator on the circuit breaker still signifies that the power switch is off even though the tower pylons are lighting up and showing powered on. Occurs when all mirelurks are not killed that correspond with the event of turning on the generator.[verification needed]

If you activate the generator before finding the metal shack the game sometimes wont let you flip the second breaker.

I tend to think its a broken quest. A quest shouldn't have to depend on the instructions prior to its completion. I got to eh boat, flipped the switch, was attacked by the queen, killed her and moved on to the shack. Killed a few more, was attacked by the shack and killed the king, etc etc etc. Picked up the note without reading it. Flipped ht eswitches and have had no joy since then as I have a non functioning switch. Went back and read the note. Had completed all the tasks. Tried th econsole suggestions but none of them worked.

And here I am, now saving my game as I go, but without Spectacle island, and the railroad plot.

I am not one to be frustrated. More pissssed off.

Did you kill all of the mirelurks once flipping the switch? They run away from the sound and may be hiding near the shore of the island. Do a beach sweep of the perimiter and make sure you killed all of them.

IIRC, I had a king (or other high level Lurk) that lingered in the water on the south side of the island...and by linger I mean, he sat on the bottom...I wouldn't have even noticed him but for pure luck standing on the rocks in the south and saw a red line (evidently I had shot at him before during all the chaos). I shot at him, cajoled him, threw grenades at him, insulted him with harsh language...he wouldn't budge. Finally figured out to VATS him with a MacCready headshot through 8-20 feet deep water and ended him.

I had to do pretty much that same thing. Anything I hadn't killed before turning the siren on just retreated into the water. Thank god for that bugged perk, because I don't know how I would have killed them otherwise...everything else was 0% chance of hitting.

Thanks. I am pretty sure I killed him. But at the time I was circling the island and killing. I'll go back there again and see if he is still underwater. I remember throwing some grenades in there but can't remember if I got him or not.

Thanks for the suggesiton. Hopefully that will be it.

Nope, not it. Went back swum around the island. Swum to the boats. Repeated the issues again, but the key is the engine doesn't rumble when the lights go on.

And of course the siren never came on.

I recommend taking this as a learning experience then. Bethesda games are notorious for having quirky quicksave functions that can sometimes bug out and get lost. You can say that you "shouldn't have to substitute for the bug" or whatever, but the bug is there. It hasn't been fixed yet. So if you insist on operating on quicksave alone, even KNOWING that a bug like this is possible, then this is at least in part of your own doing. Had you made some hard saves shortly before this, your issue would have been likely resolved immediately by reloading an earlier save. Or...you know...be stubborn and just let the game glitch out and essentially lock you out of arguably the best settlement location in the game.
