Apparently it really is 200 years

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 5:39 pm

The Devs aren't going to straight up tell us the whole plot complete with spoilers before the game's release, that's just stupid. Of course they're going to fill us with misinformation because they know that some of us are savvy enough to look at the 'evidence' and piece it all together. The last thing a creator wants is to have someone accidentally piece together the whole actual story before it is released.

Todd Howard was technically right about the 'no one ever enters/leaves Vault 101'. It was explained in the game that it was a lie set up shortly after Wanderer and his/her father entered the Vault.

As for the 200 years thing conflicting with 'New Vegas' and the 'No going back in time' rule. Well, remember, Obsidian made New Vegas. They decided to bump the date to 2281. The last Fallout game that BETHESDA made was Fallout 3, which started on August 2277. So technically Bethesda isn't even breaking their 'no going back in time' rule if they bump it up to just a few months later.

and? That was a intergral part of our character, this just a date of time.

Beth still most likely gonna ignore NV for the sake of there own timeline. Makes sense.

I don't what stance to take, but I advise all of us to take the 200 years thing with a pinch of salt...

It might turn out to be true, or it might not. It will all be revealed when the game is released...

... And it's still a long way to November. Damn! :wallbash:

There's an interview during which they said they wanted to set it way before Fallout 3.

If it truly is 2277, it means the Enclave is still alive.

Ijs...

We saw the remnants of the Enclave (re: Arcade Gannon) in New Vegas, a game set four years after Fallout 3. If Fallout 4 is set in the same year Fallout 3 is, it isn't surprising if we'll see them again. Hell, this could be about the last, final stand of the Enclave against the BoS.

Until FO5 and it's set it 2277 again and lo and behold the Enclave are in Philadelphia too.

Personally, the only time I ever wanna see the Enclave again is as powerless remnants (powerless as in no political say or pull) or in Chicago. Even the Remnants part would only make sense on the East Coast at this point as the West Coast remnants are old and dying, not to mention New Vegas seemed to make it pretty clear that was their curtain call for the series.

I would take everything the people at Bethesda say with a grain of salt. They have intentionally mislead us before, so wait until you see it in the game to accept it as the absolute truth.

I would not be surprised if the reason they set the date to late 2277 is just so they can avoid trampling over the gameplay desicions of player with there own set canon events

Then there's no hope for any follwing games if they must keep going backwards.

Oh come on! What's stopping them from making Fallout 5 set in 2285 Chicago? Or 2289 Florida? I consider this a refreshing break from games being forced to be either sequels or prequels. For once, this is a game that's like to be parallel with Fallout 3. Now I can play Fallout 3 and imagine that somewhere in Boston, Sole Survivor's running around doing stuff.

The time itself is fine, I think it's more people are worried about the obvious potential for plot holes this can have. Remember, Three Dog and Dr. Li are supposed to make appearances here, not to mention the Brotherhood in some form, complete with vertibirds at their disposal.

I actually like small increments of time when moving forward and prefer it to the "IT'S BEEN 200 YEARS THAT'S WHY REDGUARDS SUDDENLY LOVE MAGIC EVEN THOUGH WE THE WRITERS LED YOU TO BELIEVE NOTHING WOULD CHANGE" crap that Skyrim got, but hell yeah I'm skeptical about Bethesda avoiding plot holes here.

Does not have to be a sequel, but the time line could go forward instead of backwards having small details from the previous games, like Aqua Pura bottles from the Capital Wasteland or other stuff that is set in stone. I think they should look past the airs of the hardcoe roleplayers and turn previous game decisions into canon lore (the Vault Dweller was nice and didn't kill the Wasteland, the Courier was a [censored] and did nasty things and so on).

To me this signifies that Bethesda doesn't really consider FONV a relevant Fallout game.

There's been too many "last final stands", AAFB should have been the denouement of the Enclave.

Well to the events on the east coast, New Vegas is largely irrelevant. Even if 4 was to be set after, it isn't likely that we would hear much about the Legion or the NCR or probably even the western Brotherhood.

Skyrim got nothing of the sort, and was exactly as described in the pocket guide, which was written before even the events of Oblivion.

Also, Redguards never hated magic as a race, several books said they actually found destruction magic acceptable. Not to mention their connection to the Shehai Shen She Ru, the way of the spirit sword, the Redguard equal to the Nordic Thu'um.... which is a form of magic.

I honestly wish people would stop trying to take obvious racial stereotypes in TES as actual lore that applies to everyone in that race. It offers dreadful implications about views on real world races I would rather not think about.

It's not particularly relevant to Bethesda's east coast plans for the franchise. If you want to look at it cynically, FONV was strictly a bit of fan service for the purpose of getting the old fans on-board with the new style of game. For all those people saying that BGS ruined their beloved franchise, they threw them a bone by letting some of the original developers pick up the pieces of the old lore in the old west coast setting, while bringing it into the new 3D real-time open world exploration paradigm.
