Apple cult

He was paid his 22,000 yuan (about $3400) right after the removal. He then went home. His mother questioned him after he showed up with a brand-new Apple tablet, and he confessed to her that he'd sold his kidney. She immediately contacted the police (by the way, selling organs on the black market is totally illegal), and they opened an investigation. They were unable to contact the agents Zheng had worked with -- because said agents' phones were mysteriously always switched off.

Zheng has since had post-surgery issues -- the hospital, after all, was reportedly not qualified to perform an organ transplant. The hospital also claimed they had no knowledge of the surgery, though they did admit to contracting out the urology department to a Fijian businessman. That's not sketchy at all.

If he can't pay for 3G/Wifi, I think it is closer to cry.

Well, I ended up laughing, but that's because I'm a horrible, horrible person (and ok with that)

I mean what kind of a hospital would do this? Contracting their surgery rooms to three guys from another province, no questions asked?

I find it a sad reflection on this forum that people find the story funny. Whatever made him take such a drastic step in order to buy an iPad is probably something we will never understand, I only hope that he recovers fully from the potentially life threatening choice he made.

I read about this the other day and the whole thing made me feel quite ill. As judgemental as I can often be, I'm just left thinking "...?!", as well as feeling rather sad.

Not really. There's a difference between being a fan of something and being so completely off-the-edge so as to do something that crazy.

It really has nothing to do with Apple - you can point to similar articles about people starving to death while stuck online playing an MMO or Starcraft, or going bankrupt buying stuff off QVC, or any number of other things. Crazy people are crazy, regardless of their interests.

(Not to say there aren't crazy-sounding Apple forum posters. But, then, there's just as many crazy-sounding pro-Wintel forum posters. And, of course, pro-Wintel "journalists" who need to keep writing blogs on their Wintel-oriented websites, trying to make out Apple fans to be crazy. :whistling: )

We find the story funny because it's a valid way to cope with how insanely stupid the human race is becoming.

I wonder what will go on in his mind when the iPad 3 is released?

I agree with Rohugh. Think about his "something we will never understand" comment. I find this event disturbing and do feel sad over it. I can't imagine what would drive this person to have done such a thing, but we also don't know anything about his background, psychological state, or possible mental deficiencies. If one of my family members came to me and admitted such a thing, I would cry for them, and so I can imagine what the mother felt, at least.

That was going through my mind too: a kidney for something that'll be obsolete in a year or two... :sadvaultboy:

That...shocks me. Yeah, you don't need two kidneys (But I've heard it's best if you do) but selling one for an iPad...
I could understand if it was for medcine, or education or something similar. But the world is pretty messed up when people start selling their organs for totally unnecessary stuff. And now it looks like he's going to die. In all honesty I don't really get the apple obsesion. Yeah, their stuff is fine, but not as big a deal as a lot of people seem to think. Have they done anything that 'new' with the iPods/iPhone/iPad? Or is it just good marketing?
