[WIPz] Appleseed Ex Machina Combat Armors

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 7:44 pm

Eh...

He's doing Deunan's outfit for female characters and Briareos's outfit for the male characters. All he's saying is he isn't doing the proper non-cyborg male version of Deunan's outfit instead we get Briareos's outfit.

Edit: This is the outfit he isn't doing: http://www.crtoys.ca/images/ss_appleseed_tereus.jpg

You get a really big cookie for your reading skills! And yes, the armor seen on Tereus is what I passed over in favor of Briareos' design. Sorry if I wasn't very clear on that. :)
Seriously you lugnuts, I mention making Bri's several times in my posts!

Edit: Yes, the helmet will be optional, but not the physique.

I'm patient in waiting for the armor... but wouldn't mind an update either. :)

...also to voulenteer to help test / examine under a fine-toothed-comb for any problems, once the armor is in game (if such help is wanted)

Back on track now, http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/throttlekitty/WIPstuff/AEX_m_wip_01a.jpg a startup of most of the torso armor. I spent entirely too long on the briastplate, the shapes on the abdoment kind of forced me into higher poly than I really wanted for the cage. ahwell. :)

U got a smoothing error in the subdivided surface on the briastplate, that triangle shaped quad is killing it there, causing the punctuation of the subdivided mesh.

In addition you might want to strengthen the intesity of the reinforced plate's edges on the stomach area, they are looking a bit to smooth at the moment, maybe add an additional bevel on the edges.

Thanks, HAL.

I haven't decided about those plates. I'm either going to do as you say, or tap it all with a smoothing brush to make them look less "plate-y" and a bit more organic.

For what it is worth, I vote "more plate-y, not less" after taking a look at what you've got right now.

Partly just a matter of personal preference, partly because it seems like that would flow with the general FO world more than "more organic" would.

...but I can see how either would still produce something awesome. :)

After a period of great illness(es), followed by general lethargy, I'm back to work on this again. Feeling a little rusty, I thought I should start on one of the guns rather than Bri's body. I've collected some fairly good reference shots of the rifle, but really struggled with the top shape of the main body. So, not much to see yet. All the shots make it look like the top angled bit has a curve to it, but ended up going with a straight cut, but it still looks a bit fat in the back, seen in the second shot.

Starting to look a bit more like a rifle now:

It has all the looks to be a large bore rifle, but that name! "Anti Material Rifle" is just rife for melting trucks a couple miles out. Any thoughts?

I think in the show it's a large caliber rifle.

It does look promising. reminds me of the section 8 guns.

IMO should certainly be a rifle - just a very large bore (20mm slugs?)

Anti-materiel Rifles aren't energy weapons, they are rifles that are designed for use against military equipment / tanks / cars etc (mat?riel) rather than against other combatants / infantry.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-materiel_rifle

In Appleseed Briareos uses the rifle to pop tanks and kill Landmates.

Ah, I didn't recall seeing him use it in the Ex Machina film, but remember several scenes from the comic.

Thanks for the link Outlander, good stuff in there! Googling "anti material rifle" didn't yield much, so I thought it was a sci-fi thing. Sounds like fun, the largest I've fired was an elephant rifle, just can't remember the caliber. (but probably .50 cal)

Edit: After looking around a bit, I see similar design aspects between the fictional M-117 here and the http://military.china.com/zh_cn/bbs2/11018521/20060211/13086694.html.

Yup.

You'll also note, if you look up images for a lot of other real world anti-materiel rifles, that the vast majority of them seem to have some very similar design characteristics. There are a few that differ substantially, but a large number of them made by a wide variety of different countries, all are obviously of the same design class at a glance.

Reminds me of the Anti-Tank Mauser rifle the germans had during the war.
It was given to teams of 3 (iirc) because *) you couldn't move it on your own *) you could only fire it a couple of times before you had to go and have a lie-down.

Awaiting with baited hard-drive.

DarkUncleBoh: Makes sense, since they're for the most part doing the same task, so many of the mechanisms would be the same.

If I recall correctly, a true elephant gun uses anachronistic calibers left over from the bad old days of muskets (which went to over .83 cal).

The gun you fired was probably a .70 cal express rifle.

is that going to be a energy weapon or some type of rail gun/gauss cannon?
