[WIPz] Appleseed Ex Machina Combat Armors

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 5:57 am

Someone had requested this set be made, and it looked like a lot of fun, so here I am! I'm a long time Shirow fan, and I love the updated looks from the new film.

So, http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/throttlekitty/WIPstuff/Briareos_Deunan_01.jpg what you're getting, and a http://www.onesixthwarriors.com/forum/showthread.php?t=72588 more pictures of the toys if you are so inclined. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LiC413awhkk has a nice bit of the opening sequence.

Right now, the plan is to do Deunan and Briareos' armors and undersuits, a couple guns and that cute little sword she has. There is a 'normal' male outfit, but I have no plans for making that. There will be custom pip-boys when wearing the armor (think projected hologram), some config options, such as "Belts [on/off]", night vision toggle, and possibly custom animations for the new weapons. I'd like to at least have the girls pull the clips from the armguard, but I'm not sure if I want to do Bri's Kung-Fu-Super-Reload (it would just get annoying, as well as too slow). HAL9000 has given me permission to use his Seburo Mn-23 in this mod. I also plan on Modern and Wasteland texture sets, the latter fitting more with F3s visual style, but higher res.

This is also my first run-through doing full-on Subdivision modeling... I like it. Deunan's armor/vest are done, I'm tweaking up the Normal and AO maps right now, but I'll be holding off texturing until I get Briareos done so I can hit it all in one shot.

Deunan Highpoly shots: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/throttlekitty/WIPstuff/AEX_f_wip_10c.jpg, http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/throttlekitty/WIPstuff/AEX_f_wip_10a.jpg and http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/throttlekitty/WIPstuff/AEX_f_wip_10b.jpg. [insert lowpoly pics w/bakes once that's finished] 2.2mil triangles for the high, and 11k for the low, since those numbers are always fun to throw out. :)
If you're interested in seeing some of the work-in-progress shots, here's the http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/0903/throttlekitty/WIPstuff/.

With all that out of the way, I've some open questions about things I haven't experimented much with in the GECK. (spend most of my free time modeling, yo) And maybe someone wouldn't mind helping me out with scripting?
* Pipboy swapping: I think I've that mostly covered, found another mod that I think has a good example script. (I'd like to have the player click in the inventory for it, but not swap until after leaving the pipboy screen)
* Armor addons: Ideally, I'd like to have as many separated .nifs for the models; using the main parts as the actual armor, and things like pauldrons or belts as Armor Addons. Is there a way to add/remove addons via scripting? (I'd rather not have a group of large .nifs for each config option, and have to worry about durability)
* Config: I'd ideally like to have an clothing/armor/helmet entry in the inventory, with a misc item for the armor options. (thinking of a once per day repair option in there)
* I don't give a toss about any enchants the armor has, do you? If so, which ones?
* Night Vision: Haven't checked out a single mod for this, but it seems fitting here. I'm guessing now that it's just an Image Space mod, or do we have special shaders for it? If so, maybe I can hook onto a popular NV mod for consistency.
* I haven't figured out how I want to give these to the player. I'd love to make an large trap-run dungeon, but I know I won't have the oomph for that insanity after I finish models and textures. But I'd also like to do a little more than tacking onto a vendor or 'secret' chest somewhere.
* Anything you'd like to see in here?

Looks pretty damn awesome. Normally, I try to avoid non-canon type things, but I can make an exception for this. I'll be waiting with bated breath for its completion. :)

dont make the custom pipboy a requirment for the mod make that a TOTALLY seperate mod to reduce conflicts. also you said that you have no plans on doing the male armor but in the future will you possibly consider doing it?

There won't be any conflicts on the pipboy side of things, just a little button to hit to swap out between the one currently worn and the armor-specific ones. alexscorpions PDA would be a pretty good match indeed.

also you said that you have no plans on doing the male armor but in the future will you possibly consider doing it?

Very unlikely. It takes quite a bit of time to make these, and I've other things that I want to work on. There are a few common parts that could be shared and reshaped slightly towards the male design, should someone else want to take that on. I initially went back and forth over which to make, but I think Briareos' character would be much more fun; even though donning that set would really change the feel of a character.

i LOVE U!!! no but rely i think the armor design in Appleseed is just one of the best out there. considering the protagonist int he movie is female female is fine ^^

as for plcaing perhaps place it in some god forsaken dungeon that offers little rewards and make it the reward so u dont have to make ure own.

Make an additional area underneath Dunwich, that you have to jump down into a moderate sized room (so once you're in, you're IN, until you find the way back up to the rest of the caves).

Then either find, or create, a "ghoulified" texture for deathclaws... and toss several of them down there.

Then script an event that makes it so that several of them detect you when you first jump down (but that cannot be "shot from above") -- that way you have to hit the ground running, rather than have a bunch of time to advance slowly / safely in a controlled manner.

...it least, there is an idea. :)

Wait, you're making a outfit for females, but not for guys? I was under the impression that when you said you were making armors, that you wouldn't make one outfit, and a female exclusive one at that.

But upon double checking the OP, you're making Deunan and Briareos outfits, which would mean one for girls and one for guys(possibly Briareos for females as well, and vice versa).

But unless you're making Briareos outfit for guys, I fail to see any reason to download this. I play guys, because I like to have a character who is stronger then me, and the same gender to boot.

Ah, well I lost interest in this now... I though you were doing both of them... We have too many female only mods... males need love to.

Nova now, a disease forever >.<

While I won't be downloading this (I really wanted Briareos' outfit) I will say that it IS impressive and very cool. If I played a girl, I'd definitely download this... but I don't play girls...

Yeah. This.

Then why did you say:

"So far, I do plan on making the male and female versions, and I'm likely to do a few variations and extras, such as the knife/pistols loaded as part of the armor or not, eyewear, etc."

 Got my hopes up. Hope Baelkin finishes his armor.

Eh...

He's doing Deunan's outfit for female characters and Briareos's outfit for the male characters. All he's saying is he isn't doing the proper non-cyborg male version of Deunan's outfit instead we get Briareos's outfit.

Edit: This is the outfit he isn't doing: http://www.crtoys.ca/images/ss_appleseed_tereus.jpg

Read my edit. I know what TK is doing because I've read the original TESEyecandy thread for this project.

Edit: This is the outift we are getting instead: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3030/2314264330_7426955cee_o.jpg

Well, I'll wait till TK responds then, to hold judgement... If he IS make Briareos' outfit, then I'm happy again. if it's just Deunan's then I'm not

Just double checked my PM from him, and it said:
"Hey, just saw your post and thought you might be interested with the mod I've been working on lately. smile.gif Just finishing up Deunans outfit, should be starting on Briareos pretty soon.", which implies that we will be getting a male outfit, and a good one at that.
Otherwise, bring me the head of throttlekitty.
