My application configuration?

Hey, thanks for taking a look at my post, I'll keep it short and sweet for you guys.

So I just bought GOTY for my PC (Windows XP) and I went to install it. I put in the DVD and nothing comes up from autoplay. So I try to manually start the dvd rom. It gives me "D:\ This application has failed to start because the application configuration is not correct. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem." So, I opened up the dvd rom to run setup manually. I ran setup for both disks (The second disk started up instantly) and I looked for the icon for the game on my desktop. Not there.
Then I went into the program files and found the FalloutLaucher.exe and tried to start it up. I got the same mesage that I did with the Dvd-Rom when I tried to start it up, except this time it gave me the directions to the file (C:\Program Files\Bethesda Studios\Fallout3\FalloutLauncher.exe).
So then I checked system requirements and found that everything was good except I did not have Games for Windows - Live. So I went onto the internet and found a download for it on their page, but it comes up as the Marketplace, not Games for Windows - Live. I've searched everywhere for the darn thing, and I don't even know if I need it.

If you could help me I'd be much appreciated. In my opinion, this is becoming a large hassle just to play 1 game.

Yes you do need it, at least to get the game started. And you get it from Microsoft's web site. It's a bit hard to find using their search tools but it's there. It's odd though that you don't have it at all as it should have been installed along with the game. At least an outdated version of it. I had to update it from Microsoft in order to get the game to run, which is how I know that it's on Microsoft's site.

Belanos, you are literally the best person on the planet in my book. I've found what I believe to be the right file to download, so I'll post the link so others can see it. God bless internet forums ^_^

Yes, that looks to be the right one. Hopefully it will solve your problems. Once you get the game running you don't need to use it, but it seems to be necessary in order to get it started the first time.
