[WIPz] AR15M4M16 Assault Rifle Weapon Platform

People have been asking for it and here it is! First time modeling this gun too.

Here's what I plan to add to it:

Barrels:

Short M4 version (stubbier than what it is now)

Long M16A1 (old school barrel)

Long M16A2

M4 Rail Attachment System (frankly I'm not sold on this yet as I feel it doesn't fit the aesthetic of the game too much tbh but if people want it I'll make it)

Stocks:

Short (Current)

Pistol

Full Stock

Magazines:

Standard

Large

Drum

Optics will come later. I'll probably use some of the vanilla assets until I dissect how they make the reflex sights and such.

Let me know what you think or if you have any suggestions.

(yes I know the trigger is still missing... derp)

Nice work! I hope the incoming GECK let you mod the animations.

More than likely I'll just be using the combat rifle animations. I'm not a very good animator so if we can do custom animations I'm down for any volunteers!

Hi, I have no experience with modding or the GECK. I do however do 3d modelling. I've made this AK47 I'd love to get in game, but have little idea of what else I need to do, would you be interested in partnering?

Did you happen to post it on reddit a few days ago? Either way sure once everything comes out I'd be willing to help out if I can. Add me on Skype if you want to talk more. Should be in my profile.

I did indeed. It was on front page for a while. I am working with another guy, but he is 16 and I am starting to doubt he actually knows what he is doing, he's just eager to be involved. I'll skype you now.

Looks good.

Not sure if the RIS would fit the fallout universe.

They never really developed ancillary items and techniques like we have, hence the helmet mounted lights vs weapon mounted.

Yes! This is exactly what I've been waiting for.

You're putting it on the combat rifle platform? Why not the assault rifle platform? The assault rifle uses 5.56 rounds, which is what an M4/M16 uses. That seems like the more logical move to me. Is there any particular reason you're putting it on the combat rifle platform?

I think he means that it will use the Combat Rifle animations, not fall into the same base weapon as either Combat or Assault Rifle. Already confirmed that this guy takes 5.56mm.

Oh, and even as a fan of the Bethesdassault Rifle, I'll totally be adding this one to my game as well. Do you know how this one will "feel" different from the vanilla Assault Rifle? Higher power, higher spread? More moddability? I'm assuming it'll get semi-auto, full-auto, and armor-piercing automatic receivers as crafting options.

Well I wouldn't mod the weapon in game at all, just do a FO3 weapon an ask people what they wanted, just cause it looks like a short stock/grip modern urban version. Great model an picks always love to see that. You know, cause we can make whatever mods we want for ourselfs, just a thought. o/

Okay, I gotcha. I misunderstood.

I'll definitely be looking forward to this mod.

This is looking really nice already. Just curious about your plans for a few things:

Do you think you'll have one of those older-style https://www.google.com.au/search?q=m-16+buttstock&biw=1920&bih=1001&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiPg8iam_jJAhUhGqYKHZ5iBhIQsAQIGg for the default "full" stock? (I don't really know the terminology.)

Were you thinking of a https://www.google.com.au/?gfe_rd=cr&ei=c9Z9Vv0Tyc3wB_7GlKAF#q=ar+15+quad+stack+mag box mag for the large magazine and a https://www.google.com.au/?gfe_rd=cr&ei=c9Z9Vv0Tyc3wB_7GlKAF#q=ar+15+c-mag for the drum magazine, by any chance?

I guess with the sights you'd go for something like iron-sights, reflex, ACOG, telescopic?

Oh and then there's the muzzle attachments. I don't know much about those for AR-15s, but I guess there must be muzzle brakes and suppressors of some type for them.

This looks great, I'm looking forward to being able to download it when it's completed. I'm also hoping for some chamber modifications along the same vein as the vanilla weapons, one to make it full auto, more accurate, increase damage ect. Right now I don't even carry around the assault rifle because of the way it looks, so this will be a welcome addition to the game. Thanks!

I have the full stock modeled already. I'll post an update tomorrow once I finish some more parts. I wanted to include a marksman type stock as well like https://s3.amazonaws.com/coppercustom_website/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/RSR-MPIMAG307B.jpg

I also thought this stock looked pretty neat too as a recoil compensating type: http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/frs_15_2-tfb.jpg

I was probably going to go that route with the magazines as well. I want to include the 20 round straight mag too, maybe give it a benefit of lighter weight? Four magazine sizes isn't overkill I think.

Obviously I have the iron sights done already. I'm not going to use the modern flip sights for this as the entire carry handle will act as the iron sight. Any relevant optics will remove it. An ACOG is a necessity for this I think since it is such an iconic optic and fits perfectly with this weapon. I may do an eotech for the reflex sight too but I'm not certain on that yet. The front sight will still be there so an eotech would give some height to help balance that out and not completely be in the way. Telescopic sight will of course be added and will cover all the varieties. The great thing too is that these optics will be reusable across different weapons I make.

Muzzle-wise I'll probably do the standard flash suppressor (already done), compensator, muzzle break, and suppressor.

It's a lot of parts but it will be worth it in the end!

I would be very happy to have that as a replacement for the assault rifle.

Looks good. The only problem I see is that the combat rifle animations are for a rifle grip. You could probably get away with using the mg or pipe gun animations but they load from the side. Damned either way though. Use an animation that holds the weapon properly with an incorrect reload or use the one that holds it incorrectly with a proper reload. Maybe they there will be a dlc gun with standard fo3/nv reloads so the more normal weapons can be modded in properly.

I hadn't even thought about how almost everything is a side loader. How will that work? Isn't there anything that loads from the bottom? I can't remember.

Update time!

http://imgur.com/gefiL4y

Added some new handguards and a full stock. Of course you'll be able to swap these like any other normal mod. And to the purists, I'm not making the solid carry handle for the A1/A2 variants. Just view this as a customization platform than a 100% accurate replica of a particular model.

Nice. And a twenty round straight magazine and marksman stock sound good to me. Not sure about that http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/frs_15_2-tfb.jpg you mentioned earlier though - it looks a little odd. It seems to change the grip angle pretty dramatically too; not sure how that would interact with the other parts of the weapon, not to mention the animations.

Out of interest, do you go anywhere in particular for reference images? Recently it occurred to me to look for technical drawings of guns - or blueprints or what-have-you - in the hopes that having the exact dimensions of things would speed up the modelling process. I haven't had much luck there, though.

I loved the Old G3 Model of the assault Rifles in Fallout 3.

Maybe a .308 Assault Version?

Hmm maybe you're right about that. Probably best to stick to one grip type for now.

As for where I source my references I just use google image search really. If I need to get a closer look at a part like the dust cover, t-charging handle, carry handle etc I just use that and try to get multiple images to compare them to.

You know the AR-15 pattern rifle can be made into a ton of different calibers too. You could do a .308, .50, .45 and .38 variant as well.

Real life AR-15 variants are 7.62x39, .308, .45, 9mm, .300BLK, 6.8Rem, .50 Beowulf and that's just some of them.

I'll definitely be downloading this mod.
