Arachnophobia - Spinnenphobie

Don't worry OP, not all spiders are bad. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8302535.stm. On a more negative note... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portia_%28genus%29

Lot's of insensitive posters in this thread... Pity.

I'm sure someone will create a mod for it, OP. They did for Oblivion for this very reason.

So, yeah, guys, stop being jerks about something you clearly do not understand. Arachnophobia can be and often is a very deep-rooted and powerful fear that can cause extreme panic and anxiety attacks. Don't be insensitive.

NO Never. I'm one of the biggest Arachnophobes I know, and yet I think its stupid to even think of removing the spiders. And I think you are being selfish.
I've said this once before, but you wouldn't remove the genitals from The Statue of David, would you? NO, because its offensive to the Artist and the Art.
So, by this I mean its Offensive to the Developers and the game if you removed them.

Edit: I just clicked some of those links and I think I might barf.

He's not suggesting that they remove spiders from the entire game for everyone, thats stupid. He's requesting that they create an optional patch that removes spiders due to his obviously more severe case of arachnophobia.

Wait for a mod. A patch to appeal to a tiny portion of the population, who could likely actually benefit from not having the patch, is NOT worth Bethesda's time

/thread

Really though, you should look up http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8302535.stm. Not only is it adorable but it's the only known vegetarian spider in existence

Arachnophobia is not a disease that can be measured, it is an irrational fear. Smashing spiders in this game could help him overcome his fear. Putting up a patch to get rid of spiders will put him at ease, but will not help in the long run when he will have to face a real life spider.

I think a patch or mod is an Irrational solution to an irrational problem.

This times like, eleven. The best way to get over a fear is to scream FUS RO DAH towards it.

Wonder what would be the replacement for spiders essential for quests if a arachnophobe patch came out?
Fluffy pink bunny's? Unicorns? Justin Bieber?

I have Videogameaphobia, please release a patch that makes this video game not a video game.

Hold on a second, we are going into dungeons that are likely filled with horrible monsters, shouldn't we be scared...? I have Necrophobia and you don't see me complaining about dead bodies and zombies. Hell I'd like it if they actually played into that fear.

I don't understand... I's like "don't make narrow hallways, I have claustrophobia" or remove C. Curio because some one could have some other phobia.

But the reason I hit reply is to say that my first computer game was killing some green spiders with green lines on the black screen! :D

I don't like spiders all that much but that doesn't stop me from playing games that have spiders (Daikatana, Thief, Dungeon Lords, Dark Messiah, Deus Ex, Titan Quest, HeXen 2, SiN - Wages of Sin, Doom 3, Arx Fatalis, etc....) Hmmm also Morrowind and Oblivion for that matter with the Spider Daedra and the little spider spawns.... I know it svcks and can be creepy but I don't think they're going to go away unless a mod comes out that removes them. In my case I just kill the buggers and move on, besides theres other things in games that are just as creepyfried like the creatures in Dead Space and stuff.

Oh OP, don't you see?
When I was a little filly and the sun was going dooooown
The darkness and the shadows they would always make me frooooooown
I'd hide under my pillow
From what I thought I saw
But Granny Pie said that wasn't a way to deal with fears at aaaaalllllll
Then what is?
She said 'Pinkie, ya gotta stand up tall
learn to face your fears
you'll see that they can't hurt you
just laugh and make them disappear!
Ha, ha, ha!
So, giggle at the ghostly
Guffaw at the grossly
Crack up at the creepy
Whoop it up with the weepy
Chortle at the kooky
Snortle at the spooky
And tell that big dumb scary face to take a hike and leave you alone and if he thinks he can scare you then he's got another thing coming and the very idea of such a thing just makes you wanna...
Hahaha, heeheehee, *sigh*
LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUGH!

If memory serves the most common phobia is public speaking and that is far more influential to your life than Arachnophobia

Cool, didn't know you could speak publicly in Skyrim. New technology for the win! :P

The Spiders aren't real they won't jump out of the screen at you and if we catered to everyone then all the enemies would be sheep because people are scared of certain enemy/Enemies that are important to the Gameplay.

please don't be a jerk man. People have arachnophobia and it can be a disabilitating condition. This person suffers from an extreme and irrational fear of spiders and it would take alot of psychological to help them overcome it. there are alot of arachnophobics i think the person has the right to ask for a patch to get rid of the spiders. and possibly replace them with something else. u have to be understanding of people with psychological disorders and not say something as offensive as what you've just said. Your stating the obvious, yes they wont jump out the screen but i do not think you grasp the concept of phobias.

Yes, but people also have aquaphobia (water), Ophidiophobia(snakes), and every other phobia on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_phobias.

No we can't have sheep!
All they do is mock me!

I'm more scared than sheep than spiders. Sheep freak me out. At least.. in real life. In games they're usually all cute looking...

Would they then also have the right to petition a movie company to remove spiders from a horror film?

See, here's the problem with this nonexistent "right" to demand things be tailored to one's issues: The game is not a necessity of life. It's not like being unable to play this game is going to deny them anything they have any "right" to under, for instance, the US Constitution and its Bill of Rights.

Bluntly, no- they have no "right" to ask the makers of a work of entertainment to svck up to them and expect it to actually happen.

Sorry, I really hope Bethesda doesn't waste a second even considering such nonsense as removing/replacing spiders, or any other phobia related content. If someone can't handle something, wait for a mod, or learn to mod. Disregarding someone's desire for everything to accommodate them isn't being a jerk, if anything, I believe the reverse is true.

An official patch for such a small audience? Wow, can't wait to see that level of catering. Things like teselation would interest x100,000 more people than no spiders, so here's hoping, OP.

Soon PETA will be in here asking for animals to have the same in-game treatment as children.
