Having a phobia is one's own responsibility. No one is under any obligation to work around that.

Why does this thread keep getting bumped up by the way? I see it like, once every other day back on the front page. Here's to hoping that this post contributes to its eventual closing.

do you realize you cab cure your arachnaphobia by forcing yourself to play?
Actually... no.
I don't like spiders and arthropods in general.
I was on the verge of tears several times in Arx Fatalis, in the spiders nest.
I had to close the game and take a break in Penumbra (but that did happen even for other things).
When I fight them I find myself mumbling incoherent words and insults to the screen.
But you know what? in-game panic it's part of the fun for me.
Now, in real life it's a different story, and no video game can help with that.
Insecticide is the only option.

If such a patch is made, why not replace them with Giant ants from Fallout, or even The Rad Scorpian model?

We'd rather everything and everyone to cater to ourselves. Young advlts/teens have a difficult time adjusting to the fact that the world isn't going to change to fit their design. They have to change to fit the worlds design.
I can tell that anyone who supports this Idea is probably very young and idealistic.

Well,I'm afraid of heights. So, does that mean they should get rid of all the mountains?

Very witty response. I dig it :trophy: But honestly I'm sure people have a rat phobia and haven't heard a single complaint about those damn rats yet.

I would be pretty horrified if a wolf was in my room but I will not even be phased by Skyrim's wolves. Your fears are very irrational and unhealthy. Video games are art they don't bite.

If I had Hydrophobia would that mean they'd have to remove water? If I had a phobia of darkness would that mean they'd have to remove darkness? Seriously it's a digital spider! Get real.

Maybe they should just change the plot to Skyrim. Instead of Dragons it should be giant flying spiders who have already covered a fourth of skyrim in a giant web where millions of baby spiders that will people to the bone after spinning them up. Instead of a world eating Dragon it could just be a world web spinning spider and if you lose to it, it should slowly lower you into it's fangs close up as it bites you while millions of baby spiders fly out of it's mouth ripping your flesh.

Maybe Bethesda could special deliver this to the OP a month in advance and as well as the game in the box there could also be a live camel spider and 37 babies.

I hate spiders, but love the Elder Scrolls. The love outweighs the hate so the spiders aren't going to win!!

==oooOOooo==

^ What's that a (although rubbish) picture of?

Pretty much only the first page was any serious help for this topic.

I think this is a very serious issue. People who are afraid of things think it's ok to shun them. In truth, phobias are a pathology that needs treatment after childhood age. It literally means an irrational overwhelming fear. What a horrible illness to have!

On the other hand, modding spiders out of the game is a pretty easy task for a modder. It would be a simple task of replacing the model with something else, even an existing one for a different creature. I don't find it excessively idealistic. The best news is that mods will be (or am I wrong?) usable on the consoles for Skyrim, so the people with phobias can eventually get their way.
Even so, although spiders in the game aren't meant to cause a person to go into hyperventilation and shock, they are meant to scare people, so it can be confusing to people who don't have such phobias.

Finally, it's no reason to have any official support for it, sorry.

In all seriousness arachnophobia can be pretty severe - I knew a teacher once who the students knew was arachnophobic. Students pulled a prank by putting a large-ish but realistic fake spider on her desk and she seriously fainted when she saw it.

I sometimes get Cardinal spiders in my house (for those that don't know: they are a large-ish spider that, instead of building webs, run their prey down 'lion style'. They move really fast. If my mum's round and one shoots across the carpet she squeels like a five year old girl and trys to get on high things. And then I have to evict the spider.
