Well,I'm afraid of heights. So, does that mean they should get rid of all the mountains?
And I'm afraid of deep water and oceans, yet my pleas fall on deaf years, especially the water stone in Bloodmoon.

I would like to ask that in the next TES (after Skyrim), that the Spider models and NPC entries be included in the game [files] even if they are not used anywhere in it. It would be very nice to have them as a modder's Resource, in the way that NV included some.

I love spiders, but I hate bees.
Kinda weird, though not affraid of bees. More like a bee! Smash, smash, smash!

Anyway, I still think it would be a good idea for developers to start removing spider textures for blobs or some such-- something easy to render which wouldn't take much programing/art.

I recall reading that about 12 % of males and something like 30% of females have some degree iof arachnaphobia.

That's a pretty large portion of the playerbase.

Expensive (if you have a console and no suitable PC).

And messy, (or a lot more involved that one might think, to do it right).

Perhaps (on PC) they could mod/swap some other giant bug and remove any verbal and text reference to it being a spider; or Bethesda could put a check box in the settings that does this officially.

I'm scared of them as well but that's not going to stop me from buying it.I'll try to face me fears virtually...which I doubt I can so I'll just close my eyes and mash the attack buttons.I could finish a dungeon like that.

Ok, you guys are actually starting to make fun of the OP. How about if you do not have something constructive or uplifting to say to someone who actually has a condition like this, how about not replying to the thread?

Are we going to go through this again? Okay...

While we're removing spiders so as not to upset all the arachnophobes, let's also:

Remove water so as not to disturb people with hydrophobia.
Remove mountains and cliffs, fear of heights is fairly common.
Remove all indoor spaces, can't upset the claustrophobics.
Remove all outdoor spaces, for folks with fear of those.

And then continue with the rabid Political Correctness until we've eliminated anything that could aggravate any possible phobia. http://www.phobialist.com/ Browse through that a bit, see what we'll have to get rid of, then tell me what we actually can put into the game.

I have a friend who has trouble playing because she gets motion sickness when the game gets wild. Does anyone else know of someone like that and did they have a solution? Thank you.

And I'm sorry about the Arachnophobia. I agree with the poster that suggested a mod be made to help you with that so you can play. :)

I am fully able to play Skyrim with spiders, and any other game with spiders having arachnophobia.

I actually fear death, and pain too (not to an irrational extent), but that doesn't stop me from playing the game.

Get over it. It's a simulation.

Best way to overcome a phobia is through conditioning.

Put a spider in a jar...or...have someone else do that. Go closer to it every day, realizing how harmless it is, thne get used to being around it.

What if it somehow gets out? It was in a glass jar and knocked it over or the lid wasn't shut perfectly. It would jump at you, biting you and/or lay eggs inside of your head killing you in the process from all the rage of keeping it trapped. They do that you know.I saw it in a movie once.

Arachnophobia seems to be very common and it also seems that some people have a serious problem with it (and not just 'uhhh...spiders'). When modders made spiders for Oblivion many players requested them to be removed from mods since those players couldn't play the game with spiders in it. This didn't happen with any other creature. Giant rats, decaying zombies, no problem. But spiders seem to be a problem. Of course people with a severe arachnophobia are still a small minority. I don't think there is any other phobia (that would matter for a CRPG) that is so common and has such a drastic effect on some people though.

Personally I look forward to giant spiders, although (or because?) I don't have any problem with spiders. For the PC version it will probably take exactly one day before a mod comes out that removes spiders.

Lots are like that. I am like that in some games; but not others; For example, I cannot play Battlefield 1942, or Quake 2.

There is a known phenomenon called Simulator Sickness that may describe it best.

Yeah, then the eggs hatch and the young spiders start spewing out of your nose and ears and mouth while you still are alive and they start biting their way out if they can't find one of those places.
