"Arcana Awakens!" ... buh?

Also, "this vessel will be ready tomorrow / in x days" seems to go with it most of the time.

Anyone else ever got these messages while playing modded Oblivion?

Turns out Arcana Awakens! is a disease that completely stunts your magicka regeneration. Stops it cold, kinda thing.

So, uh, where on Earth Tamriel did my poor character pick this up from? She keeps picking it up too, seemingly at random. I've tried using different races and classes, both standard issue and custom, in both cases. This has happened after this install with Supreme Magicka, LAME, and also the combination of both. Could be nothing to do with the magic mods then... :D Just wondering if anyone might know, or guess off the top of their head, which mod(s) is/are responsible though.

I have tried googling it, with no luck at all. A japanese site came up, with nothing that translated to something useful.

Could you post your load order? Right click on the Mods tab in Wrye Bash, and select List Mods.

From the sound of it, it might be something from Et In Arkay Ego? But I'm just guessing... with a name like "Arcana Awakens!" and a message like "The vessel [...]", it should be a quest mod that does this, and in that load order aren't many quest mods, and Et In Arkay Ego sounds kinda like it might have something to do with awakening Arcana. :shrug:

Also, I see two of my own mods in that load order! That makes me happy. :)

So yeah, tracked it down. Of all things, Campfire Behavior. :blink: Hm... won't be using that mod again. But that doesn't help you much, I take it.

Just do a Refscope "hold X, then press C" for a character summary menu, and go to active effects or whatever it's called. At least, that's what I did. It's called Stunted Magicka, I believe.


edit: Reloaded a save after excising that particular... thing... and yes, the effect is gone. But... I'm a little perplexed, and more than a little worried, still. I don't see why two (most likely) totally different mods would inflict exactly the same bizarre thing upon characters, 'specially seeing that there's virtually nothing out there in the webs about this problem. Hm. I hope I've killed it for my setup. And I hope you manage to do so, as well. :unsure: I'll just keep playing, I guess, and see if it turns up anytime from now on...

I remember this one from a while back, someone else posted it. The disease in question stunts your magicka primarily so you can't heal; after a while it will start dealing damage, and eventually kill you. Then you're resurrected somehow. I completely forget which mod it is or what you're brought back as.

Edit: RefScope saves the day. :)

I'm probably the only person slightly annoyed that "arcana" is plural and "awakens" is singular...

This is actually a feature of the Campfire Behavior mod. You get the Arcana Awakens message if you pass by Arcane University braziers or Talos Bridge braziers at certain times. By casting a spell at the braziers, you can get a long-lasting fortification to magicka (Arcana Blessing)... or you can get Arcane Burden, which has the disease effects you described. Which one depends on your character's intelligence stat; and although the Burden does get worse over time, it will never really kill your character. However, this magicka fortification function does seem to be triggered simply by walking by at those times that 'the vessel is ready' ... because sometimes you get the Burden without casting a spell nearby.

Thanks Breton... I can confirm Campfire Behaviour on my end. Forgot I had uninstalled it yesterday on an unrelated matter. Turns out no boats (vessels) were involved. :facepalm:

Yeah, it's an... interesting mod, alright. :D "It's a feature, not a bug!" ;)

I did read the readme after I located the mod in question, and became totally sure that - for me at least - this was the one. But evidently (as far as I'm concerned) the mod does not operate quite as it should... even considering some of its rather peculiar design choices in the first place. *shrug* Each to their own. But, as I said, this one goes out with the trash, for me.

Turns out you didn't have anything to worry about anymore, Tofolo. :) But it's still good to know.

Yeah, I have to agree with you. I can just about grasp what the author is trying to do but allowing braziers to inflict diseases if you look at them the wrong way ain't it. :confused:

Thing is, without your post I would've reinstalled it (had taken out all "light " related stuff to fix my botched AN/AWLS update) and never suspected this small immersion mod of such arcanery... Thanks :thumbsup:
