Arcane Archer

Post » Sun Dec 12, 2010 1:39 pm

In Morrowind we had an official plug-in with arrows that would deal damage in area (http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Area_Effect_Arrows for more info).
Well, basically what I suggest here is to have something like that in Skyrim also.
Your thoughts?

Here are also some ideas in case you want to play arcane archer/spellbow style.

- An arrow enchanted with shock that will shock enemies with lighting that it passes by (something like BFG projectile, only balanced).

- An arrow enchanted with fire that will leave a trail of fire that will burn enemies that get in contact with it.

- An arrow enchanted with ice that I have no idea what it could do for now.
I mean, I do have, but am not actually that satisfied with the ideas for that arrow for now.

My hopes Beth goes back to those humble roots of releaseing such sixy plugins, I had such joy with that mod in the early days.

The spellbow... I've always wanted to see an archer with the ability to light an arrow on touch when he draws back :mohawk:

I think with the return of the Enchanting skill all the spell and weapon effects will be much better integrated.

Flaming Arrows, Lightning Swords, and Enhancing Staves.

Good idea, as said before the fact that enchanting is now a skill should mean this would be possible in one form or another.

I loved that mod too! :) I hope they bring something similar to Skyrim! So long as it's balanced, of course!

You could get enchanted arrows in Oblivion to but not in shops without mods.
Balanced somethat in that you could not add damage on hit effects on bows in Morrowind, a bow with a shock damage 25 effect from a sigil stone works petty well.

But yes I want a return of some of the more fancy enchanted arrows, better to be able to enchant yourself, so fun with an frenzy effect on an arrow.

Of course they should be balanced.
I would be first one to be irritated in case those AOE arrows turned out to actually be fantasy version of BFG.
Hmmm... actually, now when I've mentioned BFG, I actually think that enchanting an arrow with shock effect that would shock everything in it's path would actually be pretty good.
Still, it has to be way inferior to the BFG this was inspired from. :spotted owl:
Hmmm... I actually got some more ideas and will update the OP. :toughninja:

I'm sure I remember seeing some concept art of a Nord with a flaming arrow notched in his bow. Didn't look enchanted though, more like he'd dipped his arrow in tar....
Whilst I'm not adverse to the whole arcane archer idea, they could just wholesale rip-off the Thief arrow system and I'd be happy. Water arrows, Moss arrows, Gas arrows (?) - arrows imbued with natural Nord ingenuity...not necessarily enchanted.

Magic bows? No thanks. They're mostly wood and make no sense having any enchantment values. Even arrows feel like a stretch given the tip is so small. Lighting up the arrow without any magic use, that would be nice. Any enchantments I think belongs more with metal bolts for a crossbow.

Indeed. No place for batteries on a bow...

So what if they are made from wood?
Scrolls are made from paper (witch is made from wood btw) and they are enchanted with magic.
Also, if it is possible to make a thumb sized cellphone, why is it impossible to enchant an arrow with magic that can avoid many real life rules?
