Archer improvement

Post » Fri Apr 23, 2010 1:16 pm

As they've planned to set the archer's gameplay much more fun and efficient than on the previous games, I think one thing they could implement while playing with a bow would be that the arrows/darts we shoot have a realistic and accurate effect on our target. I mean that for instance, shooting an arrow in the leg of a "humanoid" can make him limp and move slower, but deal less damage, or shooting an arrow in the arm of a wizard can prevent him from casting big spells ... I don't think that it would be "heavy" to implement in the game, and in my opinion it would make the gameplay funnier and a little bit more immersive !

Really, well then, I stand corrected.

So I guess they could do it, maybe like a animation where you stagger, or maybe it could be linked to your skill level, like how you could paralyse enemies in OB when you had a 100 in Marksman.

Yeah FO3 and New Vegas all had locational damage, I'm just not sure if the player will have locational damage used against them (seeing how certain armor types would basically never get damaged), but I really do hope for locational damage against your opponents. Bows are also more powerful, which is fantastic, perhaps they can have "armor piercing" arrows and arrows meant for unarmored foes? Sort of like the ammo types in NV (I know, Obsidian did it but still), since there really are/were arrow heads like that

Locational damage FTW

Also being able to fletch your own arrows and add particular 'features' during the process - such as poisons, effects, spells.

As I understand it they had something similar when bow's were popular. The arrow head was shaped differently for fighting a bunch of knights than it would be for a bunch of peasants.

There were many different arrowheads actually, with narrow heads being tailor made to punch through a heavily armored foes plates (or being thin enough to slide past rings in chain mail) while broader heads were used against unarmored enemies (or wild game) since the arrow didnt need as much penetrating power, and was instead made to create larger wounds that would bleed profusely. Essentially its an armor piercing versus hallow point bullet comparison that was in NV, and I think having "broad" and "narrow" arrows being "HP" and "AP" would be a fun and interesting new dynamic

locational damage should be in

head shot=100% kill, since its a bow,not a gun, would be hard to aim ( if bethesta made bow hard to use)

leg will make them cripple

and etc

A head shot with a gun isn't 100% kill so shouldn't be necessarily with an arrow, but it should at least knock them down.
