When choosing a thief character in Oblivion I've nearly always been an Imperial or a Redguard pirate, so either of them.

I sincerely hope piracy/sailing is included.

Although my first character will definitely be a warrior/paladin, I'd go with a Dark Elf for an assassin/archer.

Same here , Nord/Paladin(Good) first playthrough an Darkelf/Thief,Archer,Assasins(Neutral evil) 2nd time

Might be the only one, but Breton. Slighter frame, surely quick on their feet. May not be the absolutely best thief out there, but I haven't regretted that decision yet.

:EDIT: And AFAIK there isn't any lore to suggest that ALL Bretons are forced to have the gift of magick. I don't use magick.

I used to play Bosmer in Morrowind, and at the beginning of Oblivion. I switched to Dunmer, and I'm happy with them for now. It wasn't the best choice for Cyrodill, but in Skyrim in definately going Dunmer. With all the Dunmer influence, playing dark elf will have a greater sense of belonging.

My favorite race is Bosmer, but they've been awful so far. So, if they're still hideous little jokes, I'll go Breton archer.

In morrowind & oblivion I always made an argonian thief character. same will go for skyrim

For me it's Khajiit

Khajit for my theif/assassin. Maybe Dunmer. Always torn between the two...

Though if he is also to be an archer, Khajit. Such a waist to use dunmer blade skill by using a bow

My fav character to play in Morrowind was a Dunmer heavy archer, in OB it was a Khajiit stealth assasin that specialized in ranged kills. I expect to rely heavily on ranged combat again in Skyrim. I've been thinking about trying an Orc this go around. Got a great character sheet ready for it
