Is Archery Combat Broken?

Final fantasy 13, that I recently purchased, has amazing graphics.
Not once does anything clip through anything.
But its a tube. The entire game is one big tube.

This happened to me with Crysis, Half life 2, Bioshock, etc, I wasn't able to finish any of those games :P

Long live to :tes:

I don't see why people surviving after having an arrow in their eye socket is such a stretch.

I'd like you to tell http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1093823/Pictured-Schoolboy-archer-survives-friend-shoots-arrow-eye.html parents that.

Jesus! I did not expect that picture lol

Lets also remember though that on Sammu's playthrough it took an arrow in the chest, an arrow in the skull and an arrow in the ass to kill an old woman... And that was on novice setting.

then again, todd killed a heavy armored orc with 2 arrows in the demo(yes I know he had archery skill att 100) so in a little higher lvl and a better bow than the iron? bow sammu used you will bring down most things with few arrows anyway. And since most of us will shoot things while in sneak, enemies will go down easy anyway without location damage. So I don't really see why people are complaining so much about this.

The worst thing about archery in Oblivion was the fact that each arrow did sweet f.a damage. I remember picking a wood elf for my first play through because i wanted to make a stealthy assassin type character who primarily used bows. Man was i pissed when i came to find out combat for an archer consists of running backwards and mashing the hell outta the trigger button. To me the fact that bows now do more damage has pretty well fixed my biggest gripe with archery and i am very much looking forward to making that archer/assassin i wanted in OB and gettin' my ninja on!

TES isnt a FPS? It's played primarily from the 1st person view and you shoot magic and arrows.... kinda gona have to disagree with you, yes it is VERY much and RPG but it is still a FPS, I dont know why it cant be both, FO3 was a RPG and a FPS and it was awesome!

Forza 3 is also a FPS... I play it all the time in 1st person and i shoot through the finish line.

It actually doesn't have the same flaws
1. stamina is drained when you draw your bow (you could hold it forever in oblivion)
2. the bow is stronger so you have a greater chance of one hit kills
3. the animation looks a lot better
4. you can shoot arrows to distract enemies (in oblivion you could shoot all around them and they wouldn't notice a thing)
And the person playing was level one. I hope im not getting one hit kills at level one

Combat also suffers from no locational damage so its not like they were just like [censored] archery

I wish people would stop complaining about everything in the game

I agree with all of this the improvements look and sound like they have fine tuned archery better than ever before.

then again, todd killed a heavy armored orc with 2 arrows in the demo(yes I know he had archery skill att 100) so in a little higher lvl and a better bow than the iron? bow sammu used you will bring down most things with few arrows anyway. I do not see why either I will use it mainly for stealth...

And all of these developers, and I count Bioware as a special culprit, have seemingly forgotten how to make a character jump.
Just stuck on a 2d surface then.
At least its a pretty cling film.

At least in Skyrim we can still jump.
Although progression is sadly out and we will likely be stuck with giant boulders that force you to go the long way each and every single time.

As an eternal pessimist I do see that this trend must have an inevitable momentum that will run out, as everything does.
And hopefully in a year or five we can see games getting challenging again and less of an 'look what I can do with these graphics'.
Sadly my inner eternal pessimist is equally certain people will find a way to muck everything up again.
Possibly with jar-jar binx ;)

I just want to say that Boromir took about seven arrows from the Uruk' Hai (sp?) with the bow.

I don't know where I'm going with this, but it made sense at the time.......

I don't think it was seven. More like three but its a good example of how many arrows you'd expect a warrior to take in the torso. That old lady sammu shot should have been one and done. But im not going to complain until I see the final product.
