Archery fail... bug?

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 1:00 am

I've been playing as an archer for a long time and never experienced that. The closest were situations where I was shooting around corners and the arrow hit the corner even though I was aiming only slightly away from it. I guess that sometimes, objects extend a little bit further than their textures seem to imply. It was probably something like this.

Well, archery in skyrim pretty much broke my mouse button so you could just be seeing controller issues.

If you zoom in too long your stamina depletes. If it goes to zero you have no power to the shot. Just like six, no stamina...droopy results.

The most annoying thing in archery:

>Sneaking
>Taking careful aim
>enemy has their back turned, standing still and hasn't moved in a while
>SHOOT!
>Enemy magically slides out of the way of the arrow at the last second, then slides back into their original position.

What the [censored]...

I witness the same sometimes with humanoid targets - it's like certain enemies are better dodgers than others.

best is when you try to shoot down a hawk from high in the sky and when you hit it. it either doesnt register the hit and the arrow is on the hawk, or the arrow hits and the hawk gets stuck on the fall down in mid air.

It's especially annoying when you are trying to get the last hit on a powerful dragon and you just can't get it up. I hate when it's flacid.

This is actually a known bug for some people. There was a Youtube video describing it. It happens to me on occasion, unequipping and requipping arrows usually fixes it. It's not just in tight places where there might be an invisible wall, sometimes shooting in open ground the arrow would fall right at your feet. Other people have this problem and have video'd it.

It happens to me each time I open the menu while I have the bow fully charged. When you close it, it remains in the "fully charged" position but somehow the arrow has no strength when you shot it. I didn't try it with the quick equip menu but it might do that too.

I've had it happen a handful of times as well (arrows landing a few feet away despite having the bow fully drawn). Usually it happens when I'm moving in and out of cover while shooting at a dragon.

It doesn't bug me as much as arrows just hitting the floor when you aim downwards. You'll only see a small strip of the floor you're standing on and the target will be in clear view. You release the arrow and it fires into the floor, causing nearby enemies to investigate.

This is what I was thinking could be the problem. I'm on PS3 and have not had any issues.

Of course it did, because a game has the power to make a mouse button break.

This happens to me from time to time, and is quite annoying. A completely oblivious enemy magically slides to the left or right to avoid and arrow, then slides back and goes into search mode after the arrow hits an object behind him. I've also seen arrows go THROUGH a person, and hit a wall behind them, more than once, on the same enemy at times, though much, much less often than the magical Matrix people.

Some obstacles will block you from shooting, and your arrow may bounce off of invisible wall in front of you.. happens to me.

As a stealth archer, I have only had this happen when I am shooting from cover or from an elevated position on rocky outcroppings/ledges.

This will get locked, but before that: you didn't mention what was in front of you. You can't really shoot through little tiny gaps and things very often, for example. The world is not THAT complex.

You can thank consoles for that. Their crappy tech cant run much at all, so things normally intangible are tangible. IE the gap between two bars, or the gap between a wooden walkway and hand railing.

Strange, because I have only had these 'problems' on obvious places. When I place my shots, it's on wide-open view - no obstacles in the way. I don't like placing good hits, peeking around tight corners.
