This will get locked, but before that: you didn't mention what was in front of you. You can't really shoot through little tiny gaps and things very often, for example. The world is not THAT complex.

Make sure the string is pulled back all the way. Higher tier bows take longer to get the string all the way back. I had this problem with my Ebony Bow, only to realise that once the string is seemingly pulled back, if you hold it for like 2 more seconds it goes back a littttle bit more.

The length of time it took you to read this is the length of time the string was pulled back!

Why doesn't your bow do infinite damage and kill everything ever in one hit yet?

I think it can happen sometimes if you're holding the zoom button while drawing your bow. It has happened to me, and I'm pretty sure it was operator error. I'm on PC, though, so it may be different.

Nah! Because as the guards approach I started walking backwards trying to release a salvo of arrows at the gits but they are all doing the same. In the end I have to equip magic or a katana or summut. Dagnammmiiiitttt!

I like when my bow decides to auto-fire itself...

Same lines as above... but the ending changes...

...

Wait, zoom....
Wait...
Ok, ready to fire, he is about to kiss my arrow...
Zoooooomp... (Hit target as expected.)
Damn, a little life left...
What... Why is my arrow reloading?
Not hitting the button... Nooooooo... Stay loaded...
Nooooo... Why did you fire before you were drawn!
WTF... Your reloading again! (Better put my finger back on my mouse, hope that un-sticks it...)
Nooooo... You fired again... (Two arrows at my feet, guard coming to inspect the noise, still hidden. Arrow sticking out of his eye, must be delaying his observational skills.)
Damn, again! But my finger is holding the button, why are you dropping the arrow before it is loaded!
Ting, ting, ting... (Arrow drops to my feet again.)
Guard yells... "I think I see something!" (Must be with his good eye. His hearing seems to be slightly impared too.)
Now I panic, he is right in front of me. Surely this short-drawn arrow will hit him... (Game still auto-firing my arrows.)
Draw... Release... Ting, ting, ting... WTF, how did that miss him!
Guard yells... "Now you are mine!" (I switch to lightning, and blind his good eye until he is crippled, begging for mercy.)
Pull out my bow to finish him off...
Damn, it's reloading again...
Ting, ting, ting... (Arrow falls to the ground again.)
Arg... Foooo-Chung-Poooo (Or whatever the thing says.)

Ok, now I am safe... (Picks up pile of arrows at my feet.)

Yes that happen to me alot and its annoying in some places. Besure that your character has an clear open space before releasing those arrows, otherwise you will ended up hitting objects in front of you.

I have the same problem quite often and its really annoying. Like the dragon finally landed and you can hit him with the bow but it won't work. And this is in an open field where its not possible that something is in the way.

To all the people saying I am hitting bits of scenery... we are talking about an open area here. I maybe thick but I'm not thick enough to post a topic about how I am hitting walls.

I AM NO WHERE NEAR ANYTHING! When this happens.

Its a bug and it affects the Archery area of gameplay in a significant way in my opinion.

I've played just over 40 hours using almost nothing but archery and I've never had this problem. I had arrows get caught on corners that I wouldn't have expected, but nothing like you're describing.

Here.....maybe http://www.askmen.com/dating/dzimmer/14_love_answers.html will help.

The most annoying thing about archery is when I stand on a cliff etc and try to hit the enemies below, it is impossiple 90% of the time even when I lean well away from the edge.

This is not a joke folks, the same happens to me. I ready an arrow and when I shoot it flies 2 feets before it hits the ground.
