Is archery fun to you?

Post » Thu Feb 20, 2014 11:35 am

I hate it, its useless! They give u a toy bow in the beginning? (wtf?) And they make wolves kill u ! I couldnt even kill them !?

On a serious note, i love archery, it does take some skill to pull off moving shots from a distance , but once u get it down it could be right deadly. I want to know whats your fav type of bow/ crossbow, and if u prefer to use other types of combat methods over ranged .

Both of my characters ATM are using Archery. Olfrid uses Crossbows, and Boris uses an Elven Bow.

Some people think the Sneak/Archery combination is OP, I for one love clearing half the battlefield before anyone knows I'm there.

Love archery. Sniper or machinegunner, either way, love it.

I love archery and most if not all of my characters have fired a bow.

And really? you just escaped Helgen. Its not like Ralof or Hadvar are going to hand you the best bow in the game and tell you to shoot the bear lol

Sometimes you gotta earn the best things.

I played as a Bosmer sneaky archer, but i found it boring. I prefer my orc warrior over archer and mage.

Half? I can clear out mobs of 15 forsworn without getting caught. Not much fun though :(

And yes, archery is OP. When something gets close, bash your bow against it, or use Fus.

Scoop up some Frostbite Venom from the spiders you killed earlier and use it on your bow, hunker down for a sneakshot, and that Training Bear will die in one hit.

Well.. I never said I was the best at Skyrim. I simply enjoy skulking and sneaking about.

I like firing an iron arrow into a place in a room with good lighting. Then when the bandits huddle around to figure out what it was, I switch to better arrows and let them fight in the shade :D

Archery is my #1 means of dealing damage. I absoltuely love it. I'd say 8 out of every 10 characters I make is an archer. But I always use it as a stealthy assassin. Those type of character I'll use a stronger bow like Daedric or Dragonbone, along with a decked out archery tree and the appropriate sneak perks for one shot kills. Sometimes my other characters will use it in a non stealthy way, in which case I'll focus on faster draw speed, like the Forsworn or Zephyr.

I love Archery!

Gotta be REAL Bows though, not those clunky, mechanical abominations called crossbows! :stare:

Ive grown less fond of it. Very slow dps, i prefer the speed and power of Destruction. I still like it though, just not as much as Destruction.

Getting long range shots with either when the HUD is turned off feels great.

Sorry, it was not my intention to brag, but to give an example of how OP stealth archery is.

No worries Harry. TES has always been ridiculously unbalanced.

Bound Bow is so much fun, and very deadly with the right perks. It's so far been my favorite play-style... Advantages of Bound Bow over regular bow:

No need to hoard arrow types

No weight, even if your weapons get stolen you are deadly

Extremely powerful early/mid game without having to enchant/smith grind...

Works great with a few summons to tank for you...

Looks amazing...

My clothing only female Breton "Arcane Archer" is level 32 right now and beasting on Legendary Difficulty... haven't taken any of the sneak perks yet (mostly focused on Alchemy)...

I totally svck at archery, and most other forms of distance combat as well. But I know that archery is potentially devastating. A skill worth developing, maybe.

'Vanilla' Archery in Skyrim is passable and quite fun imo Sir.

However, where it really starts to hit its stride is with the following mods

ABT - Arrows and Bolts Tweaks
Arrowsmith - Reupload
Proper Length Arrows
For the completionist, try:
Casual bow animations
It stops your character running like a blinking gorilla dragging a flipping tree branch.
Yowsa, yowsa, yowsa

I like bows for long distance kills and of course dragons, but after i get the Sanguine Rose i tend to stop using bows for long distance kills and let my deadra do that

Fun I suppose it can be, really it is just another tool in my arsenal. I use it to soften an area before a melee fight.

The thing I don't like about is that it doesn't make a difference if I shoot someone in the head or in the knee...

I love using archery. It's pretty satisfying to clear a room of hostiles before they even figure out what's going on.

Yup. My warrior uses crossbow for it's armor piercing at dragons and enemy archers.

My rogue snipes from a distance, as in barely in drawing distance, with longbows. Add damage health + lingering damage health poison, and any living creature won't last very long. Constructs and undead are of course immune to poison, but that's what Fortify Marksman potions are for

Even my mage occasionally uses Bound Bow instead of destruction, since Lightning Bolt has too low range for sniping, and ice spike and firebolt have too slow projectiles.

An archer-assassin is probably my favourite play style, I nickname it 'sniper' - creeping around in the shadows and taking the enemies out with an arrow before they even know I'm there. I try to play other styles, and have successfully completed a playthrough in each of a warrior and a mage ... but I keep coming back to the sniper.

Heck yes, it's overpowered. My first act when playing a sniper is usually to go to Riverwood, befriend Faendal and use him to get a good archery skill early on, which makes it even more so. But you know what? I'm a complete wimp in games, I spent most of my warrior playthrough running away from confrontation (obviously he was a wannabe warrior who couldn't quite be brave enough...) and the only reason I felt slightly more comfortable as the mage was I used the magic to conjure attronachs to draw attention away from myself. So I appreciate archery within my sniper build because it nearly always gives me the upper hand.

Just replying to this had made me want to abandon my second attempt at a true Nord playthrough and make a pure evil assassin sniper Khajit...

I have a level 17 female wood elf. Her only skill is archery, which is at 100. All 16 perks fill the archery tree. She hunts Mammoth with a Bow of the Hunt. Her name is Michi. So ya, I do like archery. :D
