Archery Ideas

So what if you could stab or cut enemies with an arrow if you have you bow equipt at close range, this is what i was thinking, lets say you have your quiver on your back and bow on your back like oblivion, when you have your weapon put away, and when you take out your bow, which would be in your left hand, you also take an arrow out with your right hand, instead of taking it out when you press the right trigger to start pulling back. So you simple have your bow in your left and an arrow out constantly with your right, and he simply puts the arrow on the bow string and starts to pull back when you click the right trigger, and if for some reason an enemy makes it close enough to hit you, you can hold down the block button, then press the attack button the stab or cut your enemy with your arrow, causing little damage, but staggering him and gving you enough time to switch to a melee weapon, it would be the same button combo to shield bash, which has been confirmed.

another idea was, what if they gave you a perk, that allowed you to shoot multiple arrows? mabye 3 at max, and they spread out, giving you a chance to hit multiple enemies.

also, a perk that increases the speed you pull back your bow, and the speed/distance your arrow flies.

o and they need more archery weapons, JUST a bow and arrow can get lame for that one skill, so in other words bethesda, BRING BACK CROSSBOWS!, or atleast add another type of archery weapon, mabye reuseable tomahawks/throwing knifes or poison and/or smokes bombs.

im just throwing stuff out there

thoughts and ideas would be appreciated.

I think it would look kind of awkward holding an arrow out to to the side.

Also, throwing knives, tomahawks and poison aren't archery weapons.

I really kind of hate the idea of the firing multiple arrows at one time thing (nothing personal, I encourage discussion, I just don't like it) but a perk for a "quick draw", being able to shoot accurately and powerfully with not much drawback of the bow is a good idea at higher levels for a perk

Also, throwing knives, tomahawks and poison aren't archery weapons.

So what would they be considered? Throwing knives were under the marksman skill in morrowind, but your right about the poison/smoke bombs, that would probably be under alchemy.

We need to be able to shoot at archery targets and actually increase skill. Maybe just nerf the XP gained from it so it is slower than normal. Would be a fun and constructive way to pass the time for archery based characters I think. Maybe do something similar for melee.

The arrow stabbing would be cool, as long as it only has a chance to stagger the enemy. Although I'm not sure if it would be worth the time spent implementing it to the game.

I would hate a multiple arrows perk.. Maybe if it was powered by magic somehow, but otherwise I think it would be kinda stupid to effectively fire multiple arrows at once. I'm all in for faster draw/longer range perks! :drool:

I agree on crossbows and throwing knives. Poison is an already, although I'm not sure if its throw able, if thats what you mean. Smoke bombs belong in Assassin's Creed. :ninja:

Bad idea, the multi arrow thing... arrows will be scarce and harder to find... waisting arrows on multi inaccurate shots would be a mistake.

I think it would be cool if you were to dodge an enemies attack to counter with a fast draw and hit a vital spot. Like maybe during your counter time slowed down and gave you time to aim your shot. Oh and HEAD SHOTS COUNT! I couldn't stand it in oblivion when I clearly shoot the enemy in the head and they take normal damage and come running at me

I absolutely agree with you on the head shot and vital spot. If the developers want to add to the immersion, as they said, then it would be better if they added these ideas. Nothing was more unrealistic in oblivion than having to shoot multiple arrows in an enemy's head and see him fighting on as if it was nothing...

I have a wish as far as archery goes....

I wanna see the person/creature you have shot actually react to being shot, not just having an arrow as a kind of early warning system...which is just ridiculous.

My example comes from another game I admit, but I would love to see someting like this implemented as far as AI goes...

I was playing Far Cry 2....I had just driven my jeep, at speed into a checkpoint which also comprised a few huts at a three way crossroad...I jumped up into the MG before anyone could react and started firing...I blasted 5 enemies and started a fire which then caused an explosion....cool, I am thinking at this point..all is quiet...I jump out of the jeep and proceed to inspect the damage, just then a soldier runs across the road maybe 20 feet away, heading for the huts, I fire two quick shots of my pistol and hit him once....This is where it gets interesting, The wounded guy limps behind a building and disappears... I am suddenly quite tense...I creep up to the corner of the building and look around quickly, here is the guy, gutshot, holding his wounded stomach resting against the wall, holding a pistol..I go around, he raises the pistol to shoot me and I finish him off with one to the head...

Now, if you were to seriously wound someone in Skyrim with a bowshot, I would love to see this kind of AI behaviour...no more of this running at you with twenty arrows in your guts...that is just stupid....and I would like to see, limping or crawling, dropped weapons from well placed shots, stronger characters pulling out or snapping the arrow off..that kind of stuff...

just make it to where an arrow to the eye socket,temples or throat kills then archery will be perfect with how they have changed it. im tired of seeing enemies still running at me with a quivers worth of arrows protruding from there face and neck

I was speaking on technical terms. Archery is the art of launching an arrow.
