Archery Mod

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 10:21 am

Todd spoke in several interviews about an Archery mod that they took ideas from. Could anyone give me a link to the mod? I would like to have a better idea on what the archery will be like in Skyrim.

Well accordingly to devs words thats was "Better Bows" who show how simple make archery more potent like rare faster/deadly arrows, I don't know such mod but there is dozens mods what make similar rebalanced of archery, I hope they take inspiration from
Duke Patricks SCA Combat Archery Mod
http://tesalliance.org/forums/index.php?/files/file/514-duke-patricks-combat-archery/
It make archery far more improved then just tweak of damage and speed, as well limited backward strafe and bow sway thats features what Skyrim share with Duke Patricks SCA Combat Archery Mod, I hope there will be more shared features.

Yes, we did a lot of researching at that time and we could find no mod called "Better Bows" that matches with the description. The only one seems to be Duke Patricks.

I remember reading somewhere that it was mentioned one of the features was no moving when you fired.

I'll be very very annoyed if that's a "feature". Bows can be fired from horseback or while moving on foot..

I do hope that there's some movement in the aiming mechanic, that you don't fire 500 arrows a minute, along with having to account for the delay of the arrow hitting its target. Boost the damage as well with, hopefully, the ability to wound body parts. Shoot someone in the leg and they stagger and are slower. Arm? They drop their weapon if you reach some kind of skill check.

have you ever fired a bow while moving on foot it's a pain...and you'll miss. On horseback i imagine that being different simply because you're on a horse and as long as it's going at a steady pace it shouldnt be to hard to calculate a shot.

Yes. Actually I have. You don't have to be still to shoot a bow accurately. As accurately as possible? Yes. But that's not what I'm referencing.

I'm not talking about longbows here...not that we'd be using those in-game(though...I'll be honest, I'd get a bit of a kick out of it...)

I've also fired from horseback. Yes, it's a bit more stable on a horse...but horses aren't exactly smooth. You can account for the rhythym though and brace yourself more easily than on foot of course.

I'm not saying we should be able to sprint and fire at the same time...but I should still be able to move at the same time.

I think crosshair offset like in Mount&Bladed as well as in Duke Patricks SCA Combat Archery Mod can really help there since speed of how fast you can concentrate on aiming depend on skills and different movements give different penalties, for example just steeping has less crosshair offset then trying to aim and shoot in jump or while running, as well such feature can help model bow sway effect in proper way, of course if you are godly skilled archer like Legolas you can try jump and shoot arrows with deadly perception since such feature work well with epic level skills like jumping from water surface or block weapon with bare hands, but before this consequences in form of crosshair offset must be done.

Will the archery mod include pigeys?

What thats mean? Critical shoot I assume?
Yes mods have location damage and chances for critical hit.
