Archery range competitions

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 3:12 am

My idea for the archery range is one that is in a large city or right outside one. It has to be like >150 yards (for the really hard shots). When your marksman is 0-25 you can enter a novice archery competition; marksman skill of 25-50 can enter the journeyman one and so on. The winner could get a bow/(or crossbow), some enchanted arrows, or a multitude of different items.

There could even be an archery COURSE for horseback archery (granted such a thing exists in the game).

Not against this, but really don't care since archery isn't my thing...

Me likey. Of course I would demonstrate my superior archery skills by showing everyone how I can hit a target the size of a skull from however far away I am from anyone doing better than me.

Grandmaster final challenge: you must hit a strawberry off of an argonian child's head from 200 yards away.

It should be something real hard like that.

Remember Disney's animated adaptation of Robin Hood, when he participates in the archery contest and manages to hit the bullseye with his arrow and then split it in two with a second one?

Yeaaaaah...

I like this idea! How about something like "There is a strawberry on the adoring fan's head 200 yards away..."

"You must not damage the strawberry"

Depends how fun archery is now. If it's anything like in oblivion then no.

Besides, this vote is kinda biased. If you're asking wether something should or should not be implemented in the game then everyone's obviously going to vote yes unless it's a stupid idea.

Archery competetions would be great, don't get me wrong, but since our arrows have 100% accuracy apart from slightly falling down i don't see the challange in that. Unless they've drastically changed archery apart from only shooting a bit slower that is.

Yeah true it can't be as accurate or easy to do as oblivion. They could somehow put in moving targets though, and a horseback archery course would require you to be on the move.

But i don't see how the poll is biased, maybe unnecessary because this is such a great idea, but not biased.

bias (Verb)
1. Show prejudice for or against (someone or something) unfairly: "the tests were biased against women"; "a biased view of the world".
2. Influence unfairly to invoke favoritism: "her story failed to bias the jury".

I guess i invoked favoritism on "Yes" because there is no reason this shouldn't/can't be in the game, but i don't see how thats "unfair".

I don't use bows myself, but it should be in since it is more fun for those who use it.

I had a thread called "tournaments" about this and many more things.
Things like archery,sword play,jousting etc. :)
Take a look at it,and add some of them to this thread i don't mind.
My thread seems all but lost now :)
I would love something like that

I'm pretty sure aiming is totally different now.
I think I read somewhere that breathing effects your aim, so the reticule is constantly moving.
But, there's a Marksman perk that allows you to hold your breath and be extremely accurate.
Don't believe me 100% on that, it's just what I think I've heard.

This would be cool, especially with marksman being implemented better in Skyrim. It would also come naturally like if some other bandit has a bow. I think there should be certian arena matches where the other person has a bow and then there's another one.
But if there was an arena made just for Marksman, then that would be awsome.

I have nothing against archery range competitions... but I don′t think Skyrim is the right setting. It would have been perfect in Oblivion but perhaps axe/hammer-throwing competitions are more Skyrim style, or feats of strength. And yes I know Nords != viking but can you honestly imagine Nords as the archers of legend ? Better save archery competitions for if we ever get a TES game that happens in Valenwood, granted bone/metal arrows may not be the thing for everyone (they don′t allow wooden arrows).

These are the ideas i came up with in my tournaments thread.
I thought it would be ideal to add them here,as it's a similar thread

I ( from a personal view ) would love tournaments to enter in skyrim....similar to area battles.
But also...what about jousting, archery, sword fights etc....i think this would be a great idea.
We could have like arena fights to the death...like in oblivion...but what about casual fights,or skill challenges via tournaments.
Tests of strength, will ,agility, sword skill challenges, archery challenges, horse riding challenges etc.
If done right this could add alot to the role-playing.....it also gives you something extra to do or achieve etc.
Anyway i like the idea....some wont maybe.
What are your views on this...and what could you add to the idea.
Like i said sorry if its been done, but it just popped into my head
Discuss......
Also if the game tracks what you do & your behaviour etc, people would like you or hate you in the tourneys...boooing or cheering you...depending on what you've done in the game world etc.

Also ...we could have a proper prize system,be it gold, items of clothing, armor, weapons things for your house etc....all manner of things.
There could be beast taming challenges, fist fights/brawls ( maybe in pubs too )
Something along the lines of the tournaments in the film a knights tale, but with added games ,challenges that would fit TES.
Like i said, i think this would add alot to the game....also i could lead to random encounters, maybe you beat someone who wanted the prize you won,so then come track you down, either to take from you or offer to buy/trade...or they may want revenge & appear later in the game to get that revenge etc.
Anyway i'm sure some of you could add alot more to this idea

I just copied my posts and added them here :)
