Is anyone else interested to see how it's been modified?

Yeah we know that it will be a lot better. I can't wait it might actually make me want to play an archer only type class

I'm not going to use archery in Skyrim, so I'm not really excited about it specifically. But it should be a lot better. It might even allow you to zoom in with higher levels of archery.

I used my bow as a secondary in Oblivion. Alone it was just far inferior to a sword. Hopefully Skyrim changes that.

And hopefully axes and maces will start being useful. In Oblivion, swords were the best/strongest/coolest/most used.

I imagine that there is at least a small degree of zone sensitive damage. I also imagine that arrows are very powerful and have the potential to kill humanoids with one hit. However, I doubt you will be able to find/carry very many arrows. You also might be harder pressed to retrieve arrows from foes.

I also envision that some arrows can cause enemies to stumble or fall.

Hopefully they do it how it should be done, and make maces and axes better against armor. That's basically what they were made for and best suited for in combat. While swords have trouble damaging pate and chainmail; Axes are multipurpose, they are sharp but they can be swung hard enough to penetrate armor, and maces were developed almost specifically for foot-soldiers to defeat chain-mail and plate.

If the only thing you're working with is purely damage, then it's going to be hard to balance axe, blunt, and sword without making them boring and bland, but if axes and maces are giving armor penetration modifiers then it will balance it asymmetrically and make all the weapons unique to use.

I think Beth said that Skyrim has a bleeding system. With that in mind Im guessing arrows will cause a lot of bleeding. I know everybody is afraid of "realisums" but barbed arrows were made to stick into the target and make them bleed out. It's sort of silly to just make arrows do tonnes of damage because that's really not the case. Arrows don't have a lot of raw power, but they do cause severe injury.

I'm sure that will factor into skyrim's archer, because all things considered it would make the system more believable and more fun.

Unlike a lot of people, I was actually really pleased with how archery worked in Oblivion. It went from being one of the hardest ways to kill enemies at the start of the game to being one of the easiest near the end of the game, which felt kind've rewarding. Little things as well like being able to fire an arrow into the sky at full power and see it come down a short time after were great.

With that in mind I hope they don't screw archery up too much in Skyrim.

I still have hopes for locational damage

I mean, if they could do it for Fallout, then why not?

Newsflash, Bethesda didn't invent Fallout. While F3 may have have felt a bit like "Oblivion with guns" Bethesda did make a pretty good effort to relate it to Fallout 1 & 2 as much as possible.

Locational damage was straight out of Fallout 1 & 2... though they didn't let you shoot people in the eyes and crotch like Fallout 1 and 2 did, I miss shooting raiders in the crotch with my P94 plasma rifle :(

What Im saying is, just because something was in Fallout 3, doesn't mean that will really increase it's chance of being in TES. That said, I think there will be locational damage, since I think Bethesda is trying harder to make the action-oriented parts of TES more fun. Locational damage was a feature in fallout 1 & 2, so Bethesda did it for # 3 as well.

I wonder if there are some perks to enhance the speed of charging an arrow, and how works others tree perks.

I also loved the finishing kill when your were stats were high that a person would go flying backwards when hit by the arrow. I loved it.

they say it was inspired by a mod called better bows . meaning running while shooting will be difficult. and archery will be much more deadly. sounds like i will no longer see bandits running at me when they got a quivers worth of arrows in there chest and face :)

I'm pretty excited that archery will be alot more formidable. Hopefully, this means we won't have to continually back-pedal, and our enemies won't need 30 arrows to down

I don't get the 30 arrows thing. By the time I was levelled up pretty high in Oblivion, I could kill pretty much anything with one shot.

If they make archery too much more formidable, it'll be far too easy. I don't want to see dragons drop from the sky in one shot (at least not until after a good 100 hrs of playing)

Actually, from what we've heard from the people lucky enough to see the demo, Archery is pretty much identical to OB's, except you get 1 shot kills.

I'm excited to see how enchanting is being implemented into the game as well as poisons and perhaps improved physics, even though Oblivion's engine was brilliant. (the arrows, not bumping into things)

Archery was my favorite primary means of fighting in Oblivion. I HATED putting 30 arows in my enemies and they are just running over swinging their warhammer. And this is like...Woodelf, black hand robe/hood, overpowered bow for my level, and enchanted arrows. So, I really can't wait to be able to shoot 2-3 times and they go down. 1 for sneak crits. I also want arrows be harder to find. I always felt like I had infinite arrows. Obviously later on you will be the god of skyrim. So, arrows won't be a problem anymore.

I never played an archery class in Oblivion because it was a chore. It would have to be pret-ty seriously improved in Skyrim to make me even consider ever starting an Archery character. It's definitely not on my list of characters to play... I just don't find it interesting.

lol That svcks cause it was really cool looking, especially if they were on a hill or a steep slope and just went flying backwards a couple feet.

what I am hoping for is for Glancing, I did not like having arrows stuck in my enemies at odd angles, they could still cause damage just less. And as for damage , I am hoping for more damage if i shoot someone/something in the eye/head.It bothered me that if i shot a guards man in the face it did the same damage as hitting them in the leg.
