Forgive me if I'm beating a dead horse, but if the events of Shivering Isles, and the replacement of Sheogorath every era is to be intended as anologous to the mantling of Lorkhan, does this mean that in mantling, the previous Lorkhan in turn becomes Akatosh, at say...maybe every world eating?

Would this be a more appropriate understanding of Akatosh's mock-schizo mood swings?

The idea of King and Rebel, and that the entities comprising them switch roles indistinguishably, is well ingrained in TES lore and metaphysics. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will come along and provide a clarification with sources.

To OP: I've heard a form of your theory echoed somewhere in lore, but I can't find where.

Its not that they become each other in turn, but they do take on each other's mythic roles. So Lorkhan, who was the King of Mundus (since he convinced/tricked the gods into creating it), was usurped by Akatosh, the Rebel. At that point Akatosh became the King of Mundus, and Lorkhan turned into the Rebel fated to return. The http://www.imperial-library.info/content/morrowind-annotated-anuad is a clear telling of this, with Anu/Padomay taking turns winning over the other for the love of Nir.

Thanks Lady.
I read your stuff on the Shivering Isles, it was quite illuminating.

I have a personal belief that the Alduin we see in Skyrim will be a rebel Lorkhan coming to overthrow the king (we know Akatosh is king currently cuz of the end of Oblivion) and because Lorkhan must return before the end of the Kalpa (the Dawn and Merethic era of this kalpa are really the end of the last one.)

No one knows if at all Lorkhan and Akatosh ever switch roles

The King and rebel swich: that's enantiomorph.
