I wanted to keep a dog with me like I had in Dragon Age or Fable 2/3 or in real life. Unfortunately, because my real-life dog really does follow me around, he lays at my feet when I'm playing Skyrim... that is until my dog in the game barks. Then my real dog, Helo, goes nutso and barks back.

I find it easier to just not have a dog in the game.

My RL dog barks back too  I've had the Stray Dog for a long time and he's disappeared on me a couple of times and then last night did it one last time. I didn't reload this time and let him go for good.

@Magus of Zeal - Yes, I hated that the dog always stood or laid down in the doorway and trapped me in rooms. He was much worse than the other followers about it and it is a shame every dog looks just like the others. And the barking during sneaking was kind of annoying. I still really liked him though and I'm sorry he kept disappearing on me.

I don't care if he's an invincible follower. He could be invincible, bark fire and shoot bees out of his mouth, and the bees are on fire, and when the bees hit you they get stuck in your flesh and put you on fire - I still want to grab him in a crysis-like throat hold and carry him to his quest location and finish the quest.

He pushes you around, gets in your way, it's hard to jump over him, he doesn't just follow you but keeps walking into you, throws you off ledges, makes a complete MESS of your home decoration, is absolutely awful at sneaking (his idea of sneaking is "okay, lemme just attack all of these guys, because I'm awesome, and then you wont be detected, so I'm actually helping you sneak. really. I am.").

The barking is fine though.

It's the worst follower ever, but I just can't bring myself to complete the quest and lose the ol' bugger.

Yerah, Barbas was super-annoying with all the pushing. Meeko has been much better.
