Are all dogs this annoying?

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 1:32 am

So I meet this dog, Barbas, and he's following me now. But he keeps barking and when I stop (looking around a city, talking to someone) he keeps walking into me and pushing me.

Is this how all dogs act? Or is it just something about Barbas?

My dog that is not barbas, the one you have to pay 500 coins for it, just dissapeared.

I left him with Lydia in one of my houses and when i returned he wasn t anymore there. But Lydia yes.

Barbas is in a class of his own but his nudging does get annoying, considering he is only really meant to be with you for 1 quest then his AI might not be as tweaked as the other dogs, more so considering that Barbas does more then attack and bark.

All NPCs return home if left to stand still for 3 days, You probably have Lydia in Breezehome, Lydia returns to Breezehome if you own it, if not she returns to the Jarl's Longhouse called Dragonsreach.

however there is a free dog called Meeko that may interest you since the dog you're talking about costs 500 gold to get back again.

I bought the dog outside Markarth for 500 gold and he is just as annoying. I'm sneaking around in dungeons and he is barking his damn head off. I put an arrow in him 10 minutes after I bought him, work 500 gold ever spent.

possessed by? You talk about Barbas as if he has possessed a normal dog, he is a deadra just shapeshifted into the form of a dog.

I don't see the problem with Barbas. He doesn't even follow me when doing that quest; he runs off ahead of me like I am supposed to follow HIM.

It's only Barbas. Since he a quest pet and can't die it was probably done intentionally to limit his usefulness.

He almost pushed me over a cliff one time, that would have been interesting

He's invincible so Barbas does whatever he likes. Kill everything in a dungeon? You got it. Tank a dragon? No problem. Constantly stand in your way? EASY PEASY.

I love dogs but I hate skyrim dogs. It's a neverending barkfest. Everytime I enter or leave a city or dungeon or fast travel all I hear is barking. I get it Bethesda you guys have recorded bark sounds *applause*. Now can u make them Please continue, my good sir., no dogs bark this much especially ones trained to follow u around everywhere. Maybe next time actually put someone who has a brain on dog coding.

One of the comments on the loading screen mentioned that entering into deals with that particular Daedra don't always work out as intended. I thought the behavior of the dog was subtly brilliant and it totally affected how I completed that quest.

Barbus - worst NPC ever?

That stupid dog. Bounding about, barking, nudging me when I'm on the edge of a cliff or jostling me when I'm trying to get in a sneak attack. He's like those extremely annoying dogs whose owners croon, "oh, he can't wag his tail, so he has to bite you." I recalled what my granddad would say to his dog if he got out of line, "Watch it, Skookum, or I'll sock you on the nose!" So I tried punching Barbas with the bow when he got rambunctious, to little effect.

Finally, when we were creeping up on some ruins, both of us had had enough, and he attacked me. Even with me chopping and Aela slinging arrows, he wasn't going to be put down. The console command "disable" worked beautifully, even though we lost a lot of valuable arrows. One of these days I'll see about finishing the quest. Frankly I don't care how it turns out. That mutt and his master remind me of those two creeps in "Diamonds are Forever", remember them? Yeah, made for each other.

This is true enough. It was the same with FO3. I loved good old Dogmeat, but the panting and barking was a little over the top.

I'll get one of the dogs when Ive "settled down" a little and can leave them at the house to bark when I come home.

I told him to quit following me at the earliest possible opportunity, never gave him the chance to annoy the hell out of me.

Aside from Lydia, the rest of the random companions you pick up, including War Dog will take off if you leave em sitting in your house.

I wanted to keep a dog with me like I had in Dragon Age or Fable 2/3 or in real life. Unfortunately, because my real-life dog really does follow me around, he lays at my feet when I'm playing Skyrim... that is until my dog in the game barks. Then my real dog, Helo, goes nutso and barks back.

I find it easier to just not have a dog in the game.

I'm surprised I didn't see this complaint mentioned...does anyone else not have a problem with the dog standing in a door way so that it is IMPOSSIBLE to get by? That's easily the most annoying thing. I'm constantly having to tell Meeko to "leave my service" so that he backs out of the door and then I have to talk to him again to get him to re-join me. This is a problem I've found with all companions but for some reason it's worse with Meeko. Sometimes running around the room so he'll follow me inside works but not always.

Also I'm playing a sneaky character and Meeko is constantly barking. If that barking caused me to be detected he wouldn't be my companion. Luckily Bethesda did something right with the dogs.

Lastly isn't it kind of disappointing that there is only one type of dog? Meeko, the Markarth war-dog and all of the random dogs around are all the same breed. Kind of svcks.

All of Barabas' behaviors are intentional: He wants YOU to help HIM, not the other way around.
