Are Any Of Us Achievement/Trophy Hoarders?

I wouldn't say I actively try to get them, but I did start a new account on my 360 last week and have well over 2000G right now.

It depends on the game.
See put a game infront of like half life, I wont care, becuase I dont care about it.
Npw make that game Fallout new vegas or a game I love, and I will try and get them all. Not because of the GS, but because some games I love I like to feel I did everything I could, unchecked achivements feel like they need to be completed. I am actually considering boositing a few just to complete a game or two because I enjoy the game but cant get them e.g in RDR you need to complete a game of liars dice, without losing a die, in a full game, no one can le3ave, problem is when someone is beat they instantly leave, another is the same but poker, I just cant get that one, and another called kingpin requires you kill l8 different people in one landgrab, I have only ever had 2 people try to kill me in landgrab.

Also if I feel its doable and the only one left e.g AC2 find feathers was all I needed, it could be done with a guide, and it had a reward (upon getting it I hated it).

Right now i'm playing WoW with a friend helping me out and i'm going for some achievements. However I will never absolutely just play a game to obtain an achievement because that ruins the experience imho. Achievements in some games seems to be there just so the player can show off that they did some crazy messed up stunt. Example would be L4D2 with 1 achievement I didn't earn being Wedding Crasher where you as the charger plow a person through 8 chairs at the wedding. It's pointless, it's stupid, and yet there are people that will doggedly try to obtain that achievement just so they can have it.

However that's not to say all achievements are bad imho since they can be used to unlock rewards. Found this done rather nicely *could be better, but not bad atm* in WoW with some achievements being combos of others giving unique rewards to the player.

Some achievements that are actual achievements are nice to get. Like some difficult L4D achievements. It makes you play something a little different or try to achieve something that you wouldn't really do normally, so that's a nice way to waste some extra hours on a game.

Or any Super Meat Boy achievement. Those are true achievements! Over half of the achievements have been completed by less than 5% of the total players who own the game. :P

i HATE them with a passion. i dont mind them at all if they are just a stat screen that look up on the menues like in the mass effect games, but some games give you those [censored] stupid popups everytime you get one. borderlands is a perfect example of this. as much as i loved playing the game i wanted to punch my monitor whenever an achievement popped up. the dumbest ones were for when i killed a bad guy or completed a mission.........DUH.......i just killed him im well aware that i killed him and i dont need a [censored] achievement to tell me that. its freaking annoying. *end rant*

I don't have every achievement in any game that I have played. So I guess that means I am officially not an acheivement hound.

If there's something to do in a game, you can most safely say I'll try to. Do all choices in quests, level multiple classes, get gold or platinum on any level, max everything, kill the super secret uber boss, count me in.
Achievements and trophies are a new and handy way to keep track of that - if it's stored away from me and doesn't require me to keep it safe, it's better than the millions of discs, floppies and old school screenshots (that is to say, on Polaroid, as I'm ancient with my 30 years) that I have which store my great achievements in gaming.

They can also be a nice source of chuckles from time to time, or quite satisfying. Hearing the pling on the platinum trophy for Demon's Souls sure was a jolt of happiness.

The only games I have all the achievements on are Fallout 3, Oblivion, and Mass Effect 2. I like achievements and do the fun ones. I wont put extra effort into getting hard ones though. The only reason I have all the cheevos for those games are because of replay value.

I generally ignore achievements. In Fallout 3 I stayed logged out of GFWL so they were never received (or at least never logged), in FONV I haven't gone out of my way for any. In Half Life 2 when I played through the second time I noticed that there were a few easy-to-get achievements (like pinning the combine soldier to the billboard) and I picked those up, but the annoying ones (like going through sandtraps without attracting any ant lions) I happily ignored.

There is one achievement I have worked on, in Half Life episode 2 I found the gnome and thought it would be hilarious to bring to the end, without even realizing there was an achievement for it. After several annoying driving sections I was ready to call it quits and then I noticed there was an achievement for the very thing I was attempting so I stuck it out.

I like games that give you achievements for things that are already built in. For example in Portal I wanted to complete all of the challenges and that got me nearly every achievement so I didn't mind putting in ten minutes to get the last handful (and I inadvertently got the drop distance one when I was fooling around so it was just the cameras and the long job I had to 'work' for).

If a game is released with no achievements I wouldn't blink an eye, it might even please me a bit, but overall I really don't pay much attention, I think I've discussed every single time I've worked for or noticed achievements in this single post.

Well, I bought a bunch of 99 cent sports games today, so......

There's an extra 10,000GS in less than a day.

I don't really stress over getting Achievements unless I only have one or two left for a game. Then I get wicked pissed off if I can't get them (like Darksiders' Aerial Predator) and don't play the game for a long time.

So in a way, I don't care about them, and in another, they totally ruin a game for me.

I don't really care about them, the only real reason I get them is so they won't kill my immersion during a critical point in the game the next time through. For example, you could be at the climix of the game, when suddenly...

*DING!* [Stopped "X's" evil plan]

(Endboss speech)

(He is defeated)

*DING!* [Completed the game on "Y" difficulty]
*DING!* [Defeated "X" on "Y" difficulty]

Sometimes, I intentionally use a random console command (like tfc) in Fallout: New Vegas to disable Steam achivements.

So, I only like them in non story-driven games, however, since my favourite games are RPGs, I don't have many games like this.

I used to put some effort into trying to get achievements back when I played a lot of Xbox, it could be both challenging and give a sense of completion when you finally got them. It could also help motivate me to keep trying when I faced obstacles that felt too big. Nowadays I only care about achievements if they unlock stuff or if I think I'll enjoy them. I've been satisfied seeing a few M&B Warband achievements being unlocked, but I couldn't care less about Dragon Age Origins achievements for instance.

If I am trying to break a certain number on my Gamerscore, I will try and get some achievements, other than that , they are just a little pop from time to time. Avatar items on the other hand, I work my ass off to get them.

I wouldn't say i hate them but they do annoy me when they pop up and i would prefer if i could just turn them off. I have no use for them and i am not interested in collecting them.
