Are any of the races in Tamriel inherently evil?

Post » Mon Jan 06, 2014 10:37 am

I'm reading about the races of Tamriel right now. I'm trying to figure out if the Aldmeri Dominion has a rational view on why they would kill innocent people to uphold their beliefs that Talos is not a god. It seems like they are wrong in their beliefs, but I'm still reading.

My guess is that every race has their good and bad people, and if any majority of a race is bad it would probably be the Altmer or the Dunmer. Maybe the Orismer. I don't know.

What do you think?

By the Gods...

Do you even 500 companion merciless genocide?

Ah yes, "Evil." I feel like that word should be together with the blatant overuse of "hitler" and "Nazi."

The Dwemer took their pragmatism to it's extremes. The Ayleids reveled in it.

I think the Thalmor believe that the Altmer were once immortal gods and that Nirn is essentially imprisoning them. I think that they want to stop the worship of Talos so they can basically destroy Talos and the Empire. But I am by no means a lore nut.

I don't know about evil, but almost all Dunmer worship the Daedra Azura, Boethia and Mephala. The latter two are considered evil by the rest of the races in Tamriel and were partly responsible for the creation of the Dunmer.

Sload might apply, but they're just completely amoral and self-serving more then anything. Its hard to really make a case for evil in Tamriel, as there are always plenty of different sides to look at.

Altmer does not equal Thalmor, most Altmer are arrogant, but not insane or evil and they hate the Thalmor more than any other race, remember, what was the first place taken over by the Thalmor?

Dunmer are not an evil race either, Boethiah and Mephala cannot be considered evil or good, they are above that, just like all Daedra and Aedra.

There are no inherently evil races on Nirn, though the Slode come close.

In the Aurbris, only those who prove to be an impediment to the true endeavour may be considered "evil" and even so, are they really?

The Falmer are pretty universally evil. At least as of Skyrim and the Betrayed.

and the Ayleids were punished accordingly. The Dwemer on the other hand got off the hook and even prospered until they may intentionally or unintentionally have zero-summed themselves

Not to mention a fair amount of Ayleids have actually aided in the Alessian slave Rebellion.

Depends on how binding fate is in the Aurbis. If fate is unstoppable, then no one is responsible for anything and therefore no one is capable of being good or evil. The Shivering Isles DLC implies there is some freedom of choice, however, so the good/evil dichotomy exists.

I'd say that without an all-powerful divine authority, there cannot be a definition of good and evil. It would be too subjective.

Let's see how "unevil" any other race is if they've been succumbed to the same treatment.

Well Mephala and Boethia are certainly considered to be evil by the other races. And by the standards of the law, murder and destruction are usually frowned upon.

What I was trying to say about The Thalmor is that they see the Altmer as being superior to the other races and that they wish to revert back to their original god form.

How are narcissistic acts like murder and theft evil when they are acts that speed up the enlightenment process? Vivec murdered the Hortator and stole godhood from Lorkhan's heart and achieved one of the foundational purposes of creation which is CHIM. Hjalti murdered Cuhlecain (potentially), Wulfharth zealously and brutally destroyed Alessians in religious fervour, Septim betrayed and tricked himself propelling himself to godhood.

The greatest heroes of Tamriel are usually foxes and snakes.

It's not just that. Sure it plays a part, and some of the arrogant officers believe the propaganda. The ulterior motive is not supremacy. It's the freedom from the mortal prison. Freedom from mortality. All spirits free as Et'Ada again, roaming the stars or whatever. Infinite possibilities.

Possibility without action is worthless, which is why I'm against the Thalmor.

Is there a website that is a huge reference to The Elder Scrolls lore? I'd like to study it if you can point me the way.

The Imperial Library is about the closest thing there is, but if you hang out here long enough you pick up on things.

I think the thalmor and aldmeri dominion are somewhat evil; but that doesn't mean like "niranye" for example is evil, altmer aren't evil, to suggest so would be racist and just unrealistic. People are people.

Why orcs? I think they're clearly the least evil, more sinned against than sinning.

Obviously you can role-play a good character even with a bad race. I'm just wondering if there are some races that are evil in comparison to others?

What is evil? You have to define it before you can say you are it or not.
