Are Battlespire and Redguard worth it?

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 2:20 pm

So I know what Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind and Oblivion are like.. They are kind of similar in terms of gameplay and tell a story about different parts of Tamriel.

Could someone enlighten me what Battlespire and Redguard are all about? I found a bunch of info about the story behind them.. like what happens... but i dont care about that. I am curious how gameplay is like? Is it similar to Daggerfall/Morrowind?

Why arent they part of the Elder Scrolls (roman numeral) series?

And lastly... are they good games? I bet 99% of people on these boards if asked if Daggerfall or Arena are worth it they would say absolutely.... what about Redguard and Battlespire? What are public's opinions on those?

both battlespire and redguard are adventure games not RPGs. While they still take place in Tamerial and oblivion, the have only the main quest to follow (well sort of) and dont have the sort of explorerability of the RPGs. there still quite good games with battlespire being the only elder scrolls game with multiplayer.

The have more problem solving and adventure like quiality then the RPGs. for example, Redguard is set on a small island in hammerfall, where you have to free the people from imperial rule ???

battlespire is set at the academy with has be taken over by oblivion, you then have to save your self and a freind from menhrunes

Haven't we answered this question, with the exact same topic before? It just seems so familar. We have years of data in these forums, searching would help.

But to answer the question, I say yes. I love them, they're different, they're fun. Try 'em, theres a demo for Redguard.

Instead, Battlespire has a better character creation than TES 3 or 4. It has also more dialoque options than those games. Pretty important RPG elements if you ask me ;)

Eh, except that every character ends up taking every skill available except 5. And I don't like "buying" skill and attribute points like that. I do like that dialog actually makes a difference, though.

Yes. Sell your Grandmother for the cash. Or your left Kidney.
Completely unbiased opinion. ;)

They're both awesome games, in their own right.
They aren't part of the main series, because they are a different style of games. Neither is an RPG.

Redguard is an adventure game, something about it's gameplay always reminded me of Tomb Raider.
You play, mostly, on the ilse of Stros M'kai, but parts of it take place in Oblivion, and also N'Gasta's island.

Gameply, for Redguard, consists mostly of running around, talking to people, solving puzzles and sword fighting. As far as I know EVERY character in Redguard is unique and has quite a large amount of dialogue, thats done entirely with voice actors(with subtitles). It's also the only game, besides Ob, to feature a living Dragon.

Battlespire is flawed, IMO. It takes place on the Battlespire, which is the Imperial training ground for Battlemages, and magic is pretty much useless.
It can also be impossible to play if you don't have a strong character.

Gameplay is similar to Daggerfall. Except you can't rest, the only way to heal is potions, magic and these funny blue crystals you find floating around. There are no stores, of any kind, so you can't buy anything, so there is no gold. The only way to get new stuff is to take it from the corpse of a defeated enemy, or find it lying around.

In my opinion Battlespire is THE HARDEST Elder Scrolls game ever. It's also one of the best.
Redguard is an awesome game, as well, but it can be hard to see how it ties in with the Edler Scrolls Universe.

I disagree, Battlespire isn't the hardest TES Game! You say that magic is useless, which is frankly [censored]. It might be useless in the first 2 levels but later on you are godlike. The spells keep getting less mana consuming and more powerful so that later in the game you have no problems at all. At the moment I am playing an assassin which is unable to use any type of armor and any weapon except short swords. I also have critical weaknesses to every element and still the game is easy. It's even easier with the assassin than with my paladin. Sadly, sneaking doesn't work so obviously I am not that much of an assassin :(

The reason I found magic useless, was because of the lack of spells.
You could purchase a limited number of spells during character creation, and that's pretty much what you were limited to.
There were a few spells that you could pick up during the game, but personally, I don't think I ever found more than two or three.
This, basically, limits you to a half of a dozen spells.
