Are companions more useful in F:NV?

Well it is called "Casual" Mode after all.

Casual. Divine followers. Ugh...

I've been reading this thread about companions, what if you don't use companions and well don't want them, they just get in my way. I take it there are companion based quests? If I just leave them behind somewhere I'll still be able to complete the companion quest by telling him/her stay here and then come back and get them at the right time???????? I find companions just really annoying, bit of a liability and a responsibility I can usually do without. Can I kill companions as well??? Not that I would but they'll probably deserve it by the end of the game, why bother with them.

You don't want companions but you want to complete their quests?
Am I the only one not seeing the purpose here?

I would not mind an option that if you are a sneaky character, the compainions won't attack everything that mobes, essentially blowing your cover. Or maybe tell them to shoot after you shoot. Just some better stratergy...

Thats what the "passive" wheel option is for, isn't it?

correct, one of the small improvements that made companions so much more easier to handle.

The simple point is I'm being dictated to that heres some companions and they have quests which might have some goodies which is the main reason for doing their quests (for me anyway), I don't like companions, what was Dogmeats quest, what was Star Paladins Cross' Quest, what was Fawkes quest? None really, they provided very little and I was happy to leave them where they stood. Does this make it a little clearer for you. I rely on my own characters skills and never take companions but I have to if I wish to complete the game in totality.

So I'll re-ask one question can take their quest and leave them right where I've found them and still complete their quest. Simple. I want the XP and the goodies without the hangers-on.

well after you have completed thw quest, naturally the quests would involve interacting with that companion so you can′t just pick them up, get the quest in your log then boot them.

Of course after te quest you can boot them of a clift if that′s your fancy.

Nope.
You want to complete the quests then take the companion with you.
That easy.
You want to use GMG, then have 8 STR and 100 explosives.
You want to hack Very Hard computers? Have 100 in science skill.
You don't want as many NPC's to die? Don't pick the rude/evil dialogue.
Choices and consequences.
You don't want companions then you've made your choice and will miss out on their quests.
That simple. :)

The passive opt will make it easier to control your companions but it is confirmed that Boone will attack Caesar's Legion NPC's as soon as he sees them.

I thinks it′s more exactly "if the group is not set to passive, he will treat Caesar NPC as hostile, even if normally neutral"

but that′s my 2 caps on that.

Your probably right, but as the Member above says I'll probably just have to boot them after the quest. I just hate having companions, thats it.

Yeah companions can be in the way sometimes but it depends on how these are.
If they feel alive, have good AI, are helpful and I don't have to babysit them then it's going to be a blast having them along.
They're boring on the other hand and they just feel like card-board cut outs.
Crap AI and they get in the way.
If they're not helpful in other means then they're just tanks like the FO3 followers.
And if they have too little health and don't know how to keep themselves covered then I'm not going to babysit their asses.

But don't judge the companions yet though.
They might be really nice to have with you on your journeys.
Should at least try them out.

Could be right, but I thought that he has such a hatred for those sons of [censored]es that his hatred causes him to go into a blind rage until they are all dead. And there is nothing you can do to stop him. Part of the + - to each companion.

Yeah, not usefull, but almost essintial. I heard in a gamespot interview that compaions are going to play a much larger role in New Vegas, and theres going to be a lot more of them.

If I'm gonna want those quest achievements and goodies I'm gonna have to try them lol, but your right about babysitting them, we'll see how they turn out :) I'll try them first time thru NV, and then pick which Com. Quest gives the best rewards and skip the rest. Hopefully there role isn't as large as one of the posts above states.
