Are companions more useful in F:NV?

Post » Sun Nov 14, 2010 6:29 am

I′m curious if there been any news on the Companions being improved gameplay wise, one of the things I liked about Fallout 2 is that if you lacked in a skill and had the right companion he/she would step in and do the job for ya. Have there been any clues if this kind of stuff appears here? Or there still demoted to walking pack donkeys with guns?

yeah it's been mentioned, you can now use a companion wheel which will allow you to manage them better, also they give you perks, like better stimpacks, armor degrades less, etc

Also I heard that the higher your Charisma, the more options/commands you will be able to give to followers.

that I′m aware of, but that′s still just things that helps in combat, I′m more referring to them stepping in to help outside of combat, like ordering a high lockpick companion to unlock a locked door instead of you.

I wish companions had depth in their skills like that. I also wish companions leveled up and you could put points into skills for them. Maybe even give them personal perks that would only help them, not you.

I don't think we know for sure either way. A more accurate response would "not as far as we know" or "not likely".

I think companions are going to be much more useful this this time around . especially in hardcoe where being able to carry supplies and perks like more effective healing, or lower weapon degradation are going to come in quite handy.

IIRC Vic could repair stuff for you in Fallout 2.

Veronica* sorry and http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/09/15/fallout-new-vegas-for-ps3-meet-the-companions/ Perk: Scribe Assistant – while Veronica is a companion, the player can craft Workbench items through Veronica’s dialogue.

Yeah, companions are going to be more useful than chain-smoking bullet shields. Or that's the theory.

I hope so. I'd love to take along at least one without having to run a myriad of console commands on it just to keep it alive...

Charon rushing in getting shot at without being smart to try and use some cover.Fawkes being a monster and being able to tank and kill in a very simple way.
I would rather have a companion that could be of equal terms with you but have some use of intellect to use properly....I will miss Fawkes covering me and killing every enemy that gets in the way when I'm too lazy to battle.

I just hope they have some more personality this time around. I loved Charon but the only time he actually said anything was during battle. I recall him having hints of an interesting backstory too, but it never went anywhere.

I would not mind an option that if you are a sneaky character, the compainions won't attack everything that mobes, essentially blowing your cover. Or maybe tell them to shoot after you shoot. Just some better stratergy...

So can your companions actually die, instead of fainting and getting back up again?

I think it was stated somewhere (possibly Josh on some forum) that companions get knocked out in vanilla mode but die permanently in hardcoe mode.

Wouldn't that go against the "everyone except 1 is killable" policy, that's been advertised?
