Are dragon encounters determined by timescale?

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2016 9:53 am

It seems I have problems with dragons spawning, as I always had. No dragons randomly appear, the only dragons that will appear on the ones guarding word walls. I don't have any mods that change NPC respawn behavior. So the only thing I could think of that would effect dragon spawning would be timescale.

AFAIK, default timescale is 20, but that is way too fast for my tastes, so I set it to 10 or lower.

Is there anything I could do to fix dragon spawning?

Forgot to mention that I am playing SSE on the PC.

How far along the Main Quest are you? If you've gotten as far as retrieving the horn, but haven't done "A Blade in the Dark," dragons will only be found at the walls.

At the stage I am at, I just killed the first dragon. I know about the delay set in by the "A Blade in the Dark" quest. But if I don't talk to the Greybeards, shouldn't I still encounter dragons as long as I don't go get the Horn? Or do I really have to get past that specific segment of the quest chain? Because this problem only crept up on me in the past when I installed a mod that changes normal NPC respawn behavior in reg Skyrim.

if you have changed the time scale of the game you have affected a lot of variants that depend upon it

a dragon will usually re-span every 3 days up to 20 days (by default)

if you have made Skyrim days to last longer by altering the time value .....it will stuff up the normal spawning proces (or can break it).......and you will have to wait much much longer for things to respawn

WARNING ........show great care changing the time scale of the game .....it will affect everything else that depends on it, like weather systems, when things spawn and sometime when some quests will activate.....

not all vales are user friendly and they may/will break your game

Well, the main problem I have with the default timescale is that it is too fast. A 20 timescale means days go 20x the real time. 1 hour IRL is 20 hours game time. It's not immersive. I know some things in game go a little out of whack if you change the timescale, but I do not care. 20 is too dang fast, and I am not going to set it back to it. All I need to know is there a configuration variable or a mod that will fix the issue (without turning the timescale back to 20, as that is not an option, nor will it ever be).

or whatever you want, its not recommended to set it below 6 iirc

or there is this mod: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/21552/?

/sigh

I know the command to change the timescale, I want to know if there is a setting or a mod that changes DRAGON SPAWNING to work better with a changed timescale.

Pc? Yes?...SE..hmmm... SL Deadly Dragons let's you change the spawn rate...so does Chaos Dragons ...Ultimate Dragons may. ..I don't know that they have been ported over, but you can look. That's the only thing I can suggest. ..I'm on my phone so opening two browsers is a pain.

Yes, I am playing the Special Edition. Not playing Oldrim anymore due to instability as of late. So I am not sure which mods will work or not.

There are a few dragon mod's on Nexus for SE... I did not read all the descriptions... as I am not playing SE yet... for a while...probably not until SKSE and SkyUI can be ported over... to many of my favorite mod's rely on them.

OP, I don't know the answer to your question but I'm with you 100% on timescale. I have mine set to 12.

Like vampire attacks, dragon encounters are dependent on the passage of time. There's a waiting period between encounters and a mandatory one that occurs if enough time passes. Because these timers depend on the game time, changing the time scale won't affect how often attacks actually occur, but will affect how often you perceive them as occurring, because you can play for an identical real-life amount of time without as much time passing in-game.

Also, dragon encounters that aren't on Word Walls are turned off during "A Blade in the Dark."
