There's a combo pack with Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics - you can also get them online from http://www.gog.com/en/frontpage/. I enjoyed Fallout but I haven't played much of Fallout 2, you may need to fiddle a little bit to get them to run correctly on modern OSs but it's rarely anything difficult. All I had to do (in WinXP) was go in to the EXE's properties and set it to Win95 mode and then make sure I didn't have other open windows when I tried playing again.

it doesn't like windows seven, the cut scenes didn't work and the screen randomly went black on me, buy at your own risk

it worked fine on my xp machine though

Fallout 1's demo is still available for download on the net. It might help you try to see if your OS will run it.

And, yes, they are totally worth it. These games are classic RPGs, which means that you have to carefully choose what your character is skilled at and work around his weaknesses.
I still consider Fallout 1 to be the best of the series, followed by the second title.

I'd recommend playing the first two, especially if you're playing New Vegas, with it being quite heavily laden with references to the originals. Plus you'll get to see the beginnings of the NCR =].

If you get the combo-pack make sure you update the game. There are patches online that will help it run better. Also: make sure you install the children patch. The game just isn't the same without them in it.
