Are Game Fixes Realistic?

Post » Thu Feb 17, 2011 2:04 am

I'm new to online gaming and I want a realistic expectation in my mind. Everyone says what must be added, but what is actually possible? Most of the complaints sound like major overhauls that drastically change the game and will take months to implement. Realistically, in your opinion, what can we expect and over what period? (guesstimates based on past experience, I'm not expecting an actual timeline)

When a game is released major overhauls are very rarely done outside of expansion packs or sequels.

That said, ALOT of things can and will be patched.

Thanks. So I'm guessing things like Bot AI, and textures can be altered very quickly? But lobby issues will take over a month, and new maps and additional modes will take more than 6 months or just won't happen?

I think it's already been posted that Splash Damage had made the bots like they are now on purpose and that they can tweak them to be better at what they do.

The texture issue, I believe, is for the 360 only. That was supposed to be fixed by a day one patch, meaning either it should have been out yesterday or it will be out on friday (world wide release date, pesky americans!) :)

games always change during the time, and you dont need big overhauls for making a game change.
A simple rebalance of weapons can make the game different, adding are removing a little part of gameplay can give you a whole different game.

and as for reading what people like to see in the game can be totally different of what the makers have in mind for the game,
so don't expect that it will be added becous the want it :)

No I understand totally, I was just curious on things like new maps etc.- which seems to be a standard DLC across most FPSs to keep players interested down the line. But from the replies, I kind of have a better idea that there will be little tweaks early on, which is good. Believe me, I don't want or expect them to do all of these alterations that people are whining about.

AH! Ok awesome. Thanks. PS3 information seems lost in the barrage of new posts, so I presumed the texture issues were for both platforms. Cool, was also wondering if there would be patches for Friday. (South Africa release is the same as Europe...but ahead of Australia for some reason)

I do not think the texture issue was with the PS3, the complaint were different... Although I didn't really look at it. At any rate, the major problem with the PS3 is that you can only play single player atm due to the network being down till end of may. As has been stated, even by the positive reviews, that the single player is lacking in story and bots department (already said that this is something that can, and probably will be, changed). I don't think you will see a huge change to the story though, and I personally don't know anything about the story either... Just going by what I have read.

Anyway I am getting the pc version, that will, most likely, be the best version of the 3 I reckon.

Although I hate to admit it, the pc thing is probably true. Cool man, thanks for all the help.

its almost with all the games that come out that the pc version is better.
why, its simple, you can handle the game better , you can mess around with settings and you can find more workaround with problems then console

you can patch anything out on the PC. you can change the whole game if you want, depending on time constraints and how eager the devs are. patches also do not need to be ok'd by $ony & M$, unlike consoles. some consoles do have in-built patching that doesnt rely on PSN or xbox marketplace etc.

xbox is the thing limiting consoles. most devs do not want to rely on HDDs since the basic xbox models do not have one, even though the ps3 does. its a pity, the xbox has really held back console gaming due to this. many games have limited patches on consoles due to the cheapo xbox model.

yes you can. i get my pc to hook up into my £4k home cinema, just like i do with my ps3. all you need is hdmi or dvi--> hdmi adaptor and optical lead.

only difference is i sit on the couch with a wireless kb & mouse.

That's true, so I guess your Bluray also...oh wait. Nah I'm kidding. I concede. Truth is, here, PC up to scratch can be hellishly expensive here, so a console made sense to me as my job requires me to work off a Mac and a pc would just be for games. Also, Bluray options are bad as they aren't big here either yet, so the PS kills two birds. WE NEED MORE TECH!!!

yeah, i love my blu-rays :) probably got about 100, but thats small fry to the 2,500 DVDs i own :)

to be honest i havent upgraded my pc for a long time. i mainly play on my PS3 but rarely fps games. killzone3 with the sharpshooter was fun though :) i just find fps on consoles is a bit pants compared to pc. i hate console pads for FPS games. mouse and keys FTW :)

stop moaning about needing more tech, we only have it because the weather is so crap in england! you lot can at least go outside :)

Rarely a reason to bother upgrading your pc these days, since all games (almost) are made with console in mind, you can run most of them on most pc's too... Mouse + KB > Controller for strategy, RPGs and FPS/TPS imo.

battlefield 3 :) will be the first game in a while to use the vastly more powerful PC to its potential. but i agree, games like crysis 2 actually require less powerful h/w than the original!

many more players than console and vastly superior gfx. not sure my nvidia 8800 will play it though, might need to upgrade then :(
