Are PC gamers going to get shafted?

Post » Sun May 29, 2011 12:23 am

Recently a lot of developers have been releasing shoddy ports of multi-platform releases onto the PC. Judging by Bethesda's track record It'll be fully featured and spectacular, but everything we've seen so far has been rendered on the 360. Bulletstorm only revealed 360 footage prior to launch, and now we know that the PC version is hardly playable, where navigating the main menu requires tech support and file alteration. I would just hate for Bethesda to follow suit and spend 5 minutes porting the 360 version over to PC and lose so many dedicated fans. Please tell me what you think is going to happen.

Umm, I finished the PC version of Bulletstorm a day ago, it ran fine and looked a world better than the 360 demo I played. I agree with you, though. Bad ports svck, Bethesda should do what Dice is doing and make their game take full advantage of consoles as well as PC's.

It'll be fine - Gstaff has already come on here saying that there would be allowances for the PC UI (IIRC that's right) - I don't see why they would stop there. keep your chin up!

I LOVE the fact that DICE is making PC the flagship device for BF3, and wish other developers would do the same for the most powerful gaming machine on the market.

I have full faith in Bethesda to release a solid game on all platforms so I'm not really worried.

Well, going by Betheda's track record, while I don't expect the PC version to get its own interface or anything like that, I expect a similar level of PC support to Oblivion, at least. Which is to say, while it doesn't take full advantage of the benefits of PCs, it does play alright on the platform. I've never once felt while playing Oblivion that I really don't want to play this game on PC, and I don't expect to with Skyrim either.

Between a workaround for the UI for us, higher res textures on launch, AA/AF, possibly DX10/11 support, and the creation mod tools... I think we're doing damn well for PC exclusive features.

No because PC Gamers have the option for mods which is something that the console players won't have. Also DirectX 11.

Considering all "What platform will you play on" polls I′ve seen have so far have had at least over 60% of the answers being "PC", I don′t see why PC gamers would get shafted, wouldn′t that be bad for business ?

It's being made for the PC primarily, so I assume that it will naturally get the most stable and powerfull version.

I think Bethesda know how to make a top tier PC Game with up to date graphics, and port it over to consoles with reduced graphics.

I dont think that they would ever release a shoddy console port to the PC like a lot of other companies do.

Be aware that the people that frequent these forums are hardly an average of the overall demographic. But I still think that PC players will do ok :)

Bethesda is usually really good with the PC, so no worries there.

But, you can probably expect some of the original ideas to be omitted from the final copy so that they can fit it all on 1 disc for the Xbox. :(

To my knowledge, no.

As far as I know, the only things that have been confirmed are a tweaked UI (how much is unknown, other than that we get hotkeys), higher rez textures, and AA. I may have forgotten something, of course, but that's all I can recall at the moment.

exactly, we don't need beth to worry about PC ui and the like because they know that the PC crowd will fix what they don't like themselves.

There are problems with that sort of thinking. With all the tweaks and changes made to Oblivion's UI, I never saw one that changed it's base architecture. So if they give us a crappy base architecture, there might not be much that anyone can do about it. There are also features that would be great to have on the PC that are not so easily modded in, if it's even possible, like DX11 support, or 64bit support.

The grid base UI mods were quite good, sure it was not MW level, but still every good. I made a post about mods and how I only worry about things that can not be easily modded. So yes I do worry about the vanilla game(well not anymore, because it looks awesome and the gameplay info sounds even better) as with out a strong foundations mods will not be able to fix it. But so far I have felt all of Beth open world rpgs with moddabilty have had terrific bases.

can't exactly mod in DX11 effects, which is why I wish Bethesda took a page from DICE's book.

I've just stopped the video at the spider part, and noticed the ground textures were pretty low-res indeed....

Well, if Bethesda doesn't fix it, the community will do it :)
