Are heavies and mediums missing out?

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 2:09 pm

Hi, I'm new to the forums and have an irrational hatred of turtles.

So it's clear SD have spent an immense amount of time creating SMART and maps that work for it, but if mediums and heavies can't do the fancy parkour stuff, are they just going to miss out on this huge part of the game? From what I understand, mediums can climb slowly to get most places a light can go, and heavies can stumble and fall over waist-high obstacles. Does this mean non-lights aren't going to use the SMART button often, if at all? I'm worried that many players, myself included, might have to play lights to fully enjoy the game.

I think a medium with an assault rifle will have the mobility and firepower to stop anything

No, everyone will use SMART (Even heavies). Also, a Medium and a Heavy can get anywhere a Light can.

P.S. Love the turtle :turtle:
And welcome to the forums.

As much as I am tempted to give a turtle I will not. :spotted owl:

Yes SD has put a lot into the SMART system and yes they will not be able to do all the nifty smart related activities that lights will do. Alternatively lights will never use the awesome weapon customization of medium and heavier weapons. Brink is a game you can play the way you want to play.

Also last I heard heavies can go everywhere lights can go. Lights can simply do it faster and more efficiently.

SMART is not about doing awesome acrobatics its about enabling efficient movement even if it is only over waist high objects.

While I will definitely play a light character at some point for the sheer joy of being a hyperspeed ninja, I've decided that having more health and access to stronger weapons is more important than being able to fly 20 meters in two seconds. However, I'm also not one for tanking it out and being very slow but very tough. Therefore, my first and main character will be a Medium all the way. I'm not worried that I'm missing out; I just have to be more creative in how I use SMART to get where I want to go.

Yeah, I'm going to miss wall-hopping, but when I'm going head to head with a bad guy, chances are I'll outgun and outlive him as I'm a shotgun or AR-wielding Medium and he's probably an SMG-toting Light.

That's what you think will happen when you go against a Light. :spotted owl:
Feels nice using the owl for the first time.

I'll take my chances as a team-player (meaning I got health-buffed and weapon-buffed) Medium utilty player against a lone-wolf Light Operative.

I know against light rifles I probably wouldn't fare so well, but I don't plan on being out in the open and getting sniped; I plan on getting in the tight hallways and jacking your Command Posts and blasting you full of buckshot.

It wasn't directed at you specifically; it was just a statement to a lot of players who think they'll get away with lone-wolfing Light Operatives.

I believe it's one of the Container City vids, but someone was playing with a grenade launcher, and he jumped all around the place. So, it seems even heavies are gonna get that Tarzan euphoria.

No need to apologize; I was unclear in my usage of "you".

light guy-Nader bouncing around blasting n reloading Vs heavy guy-Gotlung gun with 3x the hp of a light guy. BEGIN

light guy runs off wall ,wall hops and blasts the heavy with the nader, heavy takes it too the face shrugs it off and begins the chamber turn on his gotlung "3...2...1...40 shots a second 200 shot clip dodge that little man!!!"

though i'm no doubt gonna be a light once i get'em but i know well enough that just because i can dodge doesn't mean i'll always be capable mainly with heavy's big guns and such.

Container City 3. He picks a heavy soldier with the grenade launcher and makes a large jump quickly. That's what makes me wonder.

As for your scenario, I'd play the cover-and-grenades game while informing my team of a sitting duck. The thing about that big fancy hole-maker of his, is that all those bullets can only go in one direction at any given time. If he's shooting at me, he's open to anywhere else my team shoots him from. He turns to them, I'm gonna either take a shot with my short rifle, or zip closer to him and help deal some damage.

Depends, how close was the Light to the Heavy when he shot his nade launcher?

was more so meant too be like a 1v1 thing like a light op sneaking up in a hallway gets cut off by a heavy guard and has no choice but too try n kill'em.

as for the range difference ,i dunno 40-50 ft? it's hypothetical and before you ask they both had full hp n ammo.

That's a very early showcasing of the game which doesn't display what is possible and impossible in the actual game.

I heard:
for quick parkour
Light=climbing up anything within there arm reach
Medium=climbing up anything head lvl or below
Heavy=anything waist lvl or below

But heavies and mediums will be able to go anywhere a light can they might just have to go a different route.

Lights are also the only ones able to perform a wall-hop, which allows them to reach even higher places or get across larger gaps.

Match irrelevant as Lights can only use SMGs and Light Rifles. Sorry to be a killjoy.

IMHO, the Heavy will win anyway in a 1v1 straight-up shooter duel.

These medium guys sound like jack of all trades, master of none type of character.

What advantage do they have against the other builds?

Simple they are faster than heavies and have bigger guns the lights and vice versa.

And has more health than Lights as well. ^_^ That way, you don't die as fast as a Light, especially from a headshot, lol.
