Are pole-arms/spears confirmed?

My two problems with spears are, how do we carry them, and how effective would they really be.
People didn’t carry spears on their back, those who used them would simply use their hands, which give me an Idea.
Enemies could carry pole arms and we could pick them up, however they would have to be dropped if we want to use another weapon. The simple thing is pole arms would only be effective in certain circumstances, in real war they were most effective in masse. As a lone warrior you would be much better off with a sword or axe. That said I could see its reach being useful vs large enemies, like giants or spiders. In most other instances (large numbers of bandits, trolls) they would be completely useless.

I have a hard time agreeing with that, the Roman army use to carry two javalins (spears, for the most part) and a sword in addition to a big heavy shield for a fight I don't think carrying the stuff would be a problem.
Against larger numbers a spear would probably be bad against NPC's since most AI just rushes in and crowds you but in real life most people are going to avoid getting stabbed and the spear has a reach advantage. Puncture wounds are very dangerous even if you survive it happening initially and are much quicker than swinging a sword.
I kinda hope marksmanship has a little more diversity than just a bow and arrow.

Spears are typically to defeat mounts. In a game I would expect them to:
* Have a reach bonus compared to swords.
* Combined with blade (like Naginata) you get an excellent axe which is very slow.
* With a hook you get bonus to parry/trap (like the Sai dagger would have compared to a normal dagger).
* With a point you get bonus to puncture.
* A basic stick (bo staff) would be very fast, decent reach, and combat throw capability, but useless at inflicting damage (against armor).
* Go from one handed (with shield) to two handed, you *increase* reach, but all staffs are hard to block with. Most other weapons would *decrease* reach and add to block.
* Go from two handed to one handed, you can also throw the weapon (like a javelin).
* Bo staff (incl quarterstaff and hanbo) would be great for mages to keep their enemies at a distance and toss them about, but have no cut (slash), blunt (crush), or puncture (stab) capabilities at all.
* A staff will typically outfight the sword (due to reach and maneuverability), but not the armor that carries the sword.
