didn't think so. I was wondering because lots of people have talked about them as if they are.

Some are speculating them to be in due to a concept art showing a character with a halberd. It was in the video interview with Todd Howard.

Either A : As above, and would fit easily with suspected one/two handed weapon skills.
or
B : OP is bored again and wants to see how much speculation and desire is presented as fact by the lost souls of this forum.
Apologies if it's A.

I hope they're in, and that we can wield some of them one-handed. For some reason, I'd very much like to create a hoplite character, and for that, I'll need both spear and shield.

Nothing has been confirmed. We saw some concept art of a guy with something that looked like it could be a pole-arm, so we're optimistic. But we don't know for sure.

Yeah I heard the same thing first time, but I think he was talking about Dwemer spHeres, which is, fortunately just as cool as spears ;)

I'm reading the GI issue for the first time and on page 53 with the zombie/skeletons the one in the back looks like he could have a spear/halberd but the end is blocked by another zombie so we arent sure. All I know is that i want them to be back in, I want to hunt with spears and a hopalite character would be cool.

I wouldn't take that as definitive evidence, because things shown in concept art won't always reflect the finished game completely accurately. Concept art is, after all, not created with the intention of showing potential customers what the game will look like. It's purpose is to give the 3D artists a reference to use for creating a in-game models and textures, and it's always possible that things shown in concept art won't actually appear in the finished game, or will change in the transition from 2D concept art to 3D models.

I do hope spears will be in, of course, but right now, it's not confirmed.

If one handed weapons has everything from daggers to shortwords to longswords blade wise, plus axes and maces, it sure would be nice if the two handed weapons had a bit more variety than just claymore/axe/hammer.

Not confirmed, but like others are saying, there seems to be a lot of evidence to suggest that they are in, especially pole-arms and staffs. Haven't seen a spear yet though... but I'm hoping! :)

Your lack of a question mark on the topic name made me rush in here with all sorts of excitement. Now I feel bitter.

The main issue is that they are rather big.

Combat might be whack with them, get in close and the spear becomes quite a bit less useful. that might just make them crappy to use or come up against. they just become a bit unwieldy in a lot of game circumstances

shouldering it could be an issue < on the familiar back weapon bone the spear will look weird and clip through ceilings/stuff. And just putting a spear bone somewhere orientated in a decent direction may still have similar issues in interiors.

get that right and there is no excuse.

Come now it's not like the title says "Pole-arms/spears confirmed" Which you could turn into a question if you add a ?, but it say "Are pole-arms/spears confirmed" obviously a question, no need to get bitter just pay closer attention :)

Now that I look at it I see wat your talking about. He is holding it different then the one with an ax so you know its not the same weapon. I hope its a spear or some form of pole arm. It would be kinda silly not to have them...pole arms were always very importent weapons in the times before guns. I would take pole arms over a cross bow anyday since honestly a bow can serve the same purpose but a spear has its own function compared to a sword or ax

Looks like the zombie skeleton is holding a two handed blunt weapon to me, but I can't be sure.

Limiting spears to the same approximate length as a staff would eliminate a lot of potential problems with them (though also limiting your ability to hold off the enemy at a distance somewhat). It would also allow them to share some animations/attacks with staves, if staves also are treated as valid weapons.

They had spears in morrowind, and it was fine. No worries ^_-
