Are settlements completely broken?

Post » Fri Dec 11, 2015 7:54 am

1. Consistently, I'm finding that resources aren't registering when I'm not in my settlements. When I return to a settlement where this is happening, the resources will register, but will randomly disappear again when I'm gone. Is that normal?

2. Separate to that, I've returned to a number of settlements to find all resources destroyed, despite there being no attack. Just today, I was at Red Rocket when all my resources started breaking one-by-one right before my eyes. There was no attack and no way to stop it from happening. Should I have the opportunity to defend my settlements? Or does it just do a background attack that ignores the strategy of defence layouts and walls, and just randomly pops off x amount of resources? I'm a bit confused. Thanks in advance.

The thing that has fixed incorrect registering of settlement info for me and others is completely removing all TVs and jukeboxes from every single last one of your settlements. You will have to hunt them down in each place, some are kind of hidden a little. Weird bug.

They aren't completely broken but there are a lot of PIA bugs like you mention. So far I've seen these bugs:

1. pipboy settlement stats doesn't jive with the stats you see when you actually go to the settlement. the pip frequently tells me there is no water or there are 38 settlers but when I go there the water is fine and its 20 settlers.

2. you many not get a settlement defense notice at all, you just find out everything in your settlement is broken

3. for auto-resolve battles the break script stupidly/aggressively just does "break all", at least in my game, every single turret, every single gen, every single water pump, every single crop is broken as if that is "immersive"

4. bugged "break script" -- the thing you mentioned. It not breaks everything right before your eyes but will re-break stuff you fix

5. bugged defense quests where you kill the attackers, the settlers thank you but the quest doesn't complete causing you to fail it when you leave the area (this can fixed by repeatedly resurrecting and re-killing an attacker until the quest completes)

That said, I've still managed to have fun with settlements!

oops, took it off. I thought it was a bug especially since it came coupled with bug 5. And I question if it was the spoiler you refer to as I have not progressed in the story to the "big choice" whatever/where ever that is. Unless it is the case you get attacked for joining the other factions and doing some quests for them.

If you do get the popup for an attack it is like a microsecond long so easy to miss. The quest will be in your misc bucket though, so if you check that somewhat frequently you'll probably catch some that way.

I have turned those defend quests off, life is much better without them...buggy as they are and far too easy to miss.

Very immersion breaking.....I think it should be an actual mini quest.....you get a notice and the second you decide to show up, the attack starts.

Getting a notice while in the middle of an epic battle is annoying. If you do not fast travel, then you always fail. Some times you show up and you are dead even before you spawn....Tenpines.

At level 50 Survival mode, I went to a settlement in response to an attack. 7 Raiders, two of them Legendary and one in PA...and at the same time 5 Bloodbugs, 3 of them Red Widows. I had to hide like a scared child in the house because I was getting the [censored] kicked out of me.

Completely broken? No. Almost completely broken? Yes. Well, no not that much but they do have several bugs.

The ones I've experienced myself:

- Items falling through objects (I will never forget this one!)

- NPCs gathering at certain parts of the Settlement during the night.

- Vendor settlers will not stand behind their stall and often stay at the same spot, away from it and rarely move.

- Settlements showing 0 Population or resources.

- No Settlement under attack warning.

- Settlements who are supposed to be under attack, don't get attacked at all, message of defense completed appears.

- NPCs on the roofs.

- Brahmin getting stuck inside buildings.

- Recruited Legendary Merchants never show up. Population goes up by 1 after recruiting them then goes down by 1 and cannot be recruited again if encountered.

- Assigning named Settlers to a store won't let you trade gear with them during work hours.

- Jet fuel can't melt steel beams.

- Placed light bulbs taking too much time to load upon returning to a settlemen (At least on PS4).

- Settlers sleeping on thin air.

- We won't go quietly, the Legion can count on that.

- Turrets breaking for no reason.

- Settlers pathing.

It's kind of a mix here. Although the water/food goes right back up to normal once I arrive, the massive decrease in happiness as a result is real.

In addition to the ones above my crops become impossible to select unless I look at them from far away or an obscure angle...

I can no longer assign Preston...

Pipboy map tells me different information than the Workshop...

I must be super lucky because I've not experienced any of these bugs, only one time the pipboy settlement tab buged out and showed zero beds at one settlement but it fixed itself after a while.

Next time a settler attacks you, check out their loot and look at the loot carefully.

I'm following a strict no fast travelling from with the range of a recruitment beacon policy and it works, at least until I got stuck underwater and fast travelled.......bugged again, so yeah to avoid the false settlement reports don't fast travel away if your in range of a recruitment beacon, this does mean however that I'm taking lots of vertibird rides since I've got settlements everywhere making finding a clear area difficult.

Oh and for me a least its nothing to do with the TV or Jukebox as I have neither at any of my settlements.
