Are settlers supposed to eat the food stored in the workshop

Post » Sun Jan 10, 2016 12:22 am

So I've been playing my character for about 28 hours now, and every time I have come across an important food item (i.e. Deathclaw Meat) I've collected it and kept it for cooking some of the higher tier recipes later in the game. The issue I may have just now discovered is that I believe my settlers have been eating all of it. I store everything in the workshop in Sanctuary as it is a convenient place to keep all crafting materials and supplies. I would just like to know if the settlers actually eat the food from the aid section of the workshop storage or if I may have misplaced it somewhere along the way. Any help would be appreciated.

I did this as well until things started to go missing. I'm not sure what's up with it but I made several containers for "raw" food, cooked food, chems (for crafting) and advanced chems to just avoid the problem. This happens only in sanctuary.

I don't believe they eat it though. All you need is that food number, not any actual food item as far as I understand it (could be wrong).

Also it seems my settlers wont place crops and water in my workbench when there's already that item in it. This is only the case for Sanctuary again.

I have an ice chest in my Sanctuary home where I keep all my AID items, no one touches the items there.

I havent seen missing craftable food supplies because I always maintain a huge excess of daily produced vs consumed, but would not surprise me if settlers ate it.

The help game text specifically mentions each settler consumes 1 food and water per day. And if not available from daily production, will eat stored food, and if no stored food, will access to supply line if available to consume stored or excess produced food water elsewhere.

I had thought the meaning was they would only eat raw crop harvest food and water, not actual craft supply food, but since both are technically Aid category supply, maybe they do.

Do you have adequate food production at all settlements? If you have a daily excess from regular produced food, setttlers should never have to consume stored food.

There was a point where I had multiple settlements with inadequate food/water supplies but the reason for that was that they were not already connected by trade route. I'll make sure to double check and keep all my settlements up to date and I've since kept all my aid in a separate container. Thanks for the help guys, I honestly thought I was going a little crazy.
