Are my specs okay for the high-res textures and DX11?

I'd recommend Ultra dx9 + the hi res textures if you have a 64bit operating system.

On my comp i7 920@3.5 and a ATI 5870, I can't run DX11 in extreme or ultra except when its windowed. I suspect its also because AMD hasn't released optimised drivers yet.

Dude, their′s got to be something seriously wrong with your system.
I run I7 920@2.7 and a ATI 5850 and I can run DX11 in Ultra comfortably if I set objects to Extreme (or leave everything on Ultra and restrict tesselation to 8 samples in CCC).
DX11 all in Extreme gives me same performance (even a bit smoother) than DX9 before the patch.

I have 2 x 5770 in crossfire which both combined are usually faster than the 5850 and just a bit slower than 5870. With the dx11 full ultra spec I fail to maintain 30 fps at 1400x900 let alone 1080p.
