Are we.... spoiled?

Post » Thu Aug 12, 2010 12:06 pm

I love to browse the forum, dont get me wrong... but it does make me wonder. Are we being spoiled rotten? I see people claim Oblivion was a bad game JUST because of a few minor flaws, and same with Morrowind. I have a huge appreciation for games and the intense work that goes into making them, I see them as an art and many deserve a little bit of a deep look, so little flaws won't bother me. But it just sounds like we expect too much from precious Skyrim that it seems we are trying to put ourselves in a position to throw a disappointed tantrum. Are we even going to be able to accept the game if it's NOT perfect?

No game is perfect, but I point out the flaws in TES games with the understanding that those are the only flaws, meaning the game is amazing, and just about perfect. :P

As for Skyrim being over hyped, no, I don't think so. They really learned their lesson with Oblivion.

Who the hell says Oblivion was bad? Sure it wasn't as good as Morrowind, but for it's time it was the best RPG out there.

I guess I can't say 'bad'... But I find it to be a hard title to defend.
The awful level scaling renders it effectively unplayable in my opinion.

Bethesda Game Studios didn't develop Brink, nor did they have any part in the development of it. Bethesda Softworks published (manufactured/marketed) Brink because Splash Damage (Brink's developer) used id Tech 4 (game engine created by fellow ZeniMax Media subsidiary, as of 2009, id Software). Every game that uses any version of id Tech is required to be published by ZeniMax Media subsidiary Bethesda Softworks.

No.
Five star restaurants can lose a star if quality drops.
And when you are at the very top there is no place to go but down.
Its logical people are worried about Skyrim, and Bethesda does have some pressure on it.
They have delivered the best game of a generation three times in a row. Can they do it again?
We all hope so, and like a worried mother hen we tend to cluck around.

It's not that I'm worried about Skyrim really, I feel I'll enjoy whatever is thrown. It sounds great, but I fear the bad rep caused by people who are so easily thrown into a fit because they didnt like how the the pub women didnt have the proper briast physics XD I know plenty of humans who wont play games simply because they've heard people be angry about them for the silliest reasons

A cynic could argue that sequels often ride on the success of their predecessors (more true of the movie industry), we should not take it for granted that Skyrim will be a better game then oblivion. Crysis 2 was a regression, as was Battlefield BC.

I think everybody has high expectations for Skyrim. I don't see anything wrong with that nor do I see anything wrong with pointing out the flaws in Morrowind or Oblivion so that we don't repeat the same mistakes that were made in those games. Do I need to mention the 5000 HP Goblin UberLord or was it Annoying Lord I can never remember.

People definitely criticize Oblivion a lot. There will ALWAYS be people who are like "I wish it was more like Morrowind", and they'll say the same about Oblivion after Skyrim comes out. Even still, some people say they wish it was more like Daggerfall, despite how much the games have evolved. Fans will never be totally happy, because no game will ever be perfect. No matter how many flaws they fix, fans will always find ways to nitpick. If people would just accept that each game has its own unique set of ups and downs, without criticizing it left and right, they'd all around enjoy gaming a lot more.

It's funny how both Crysis 2 and BBC were published by EA. Hmmm...

For those of you who have bashed Oblivion that was the 4th title of the Elder Scrolls thats what you got get over it.
For those who will bash Skyrim after its release dont start anything I dont wanna here it. (BTW you should probably quit playing ES games if your attitude fits this)

A few minor flaws doesn't even come close to what was wrong with Oblivion. You must have not been around when Oblvion was released.

What I expect is an RPG that is complex and in the same line of Arena, Daggerfall and Morrowind. Oblivion didn't come close.

It's very easy to continue what works, unfortunatly it's easier to dumb down the game to bring in more $$$$$. That is what happend with Oblivion.

To be quite honest, I'm not expecting anything less with Skyrim.

I totally agree. People hate games for stupid reasons. Some people will never be satisfied. Me? I already am, and have been for years. I think Morrowind, Skyrim, AND FO3 are masterpieces.
