Are the chests in DB sanctuary safe? : IV

I am part of the DB on my newest playthrough, and I want to know if it is safe to store things in the DB chests in the living area.

I believe that the named chests; Teinaava's chest, Gogron's chest etc. are the only non respawning containers.

But wouldn't they take anything in there? I mean, put Dawnfire in Gogron's chest. Would he end up weilding it because his AI tells him "Look! Shiny new and powerful sword! Use it!"

I don't think they actually use the chests, what's in there stays there.
