Are the Daedra still in Skyrim?

Post » Tue Jul 13, 2010 10:30 am

Any word on whether the Daedra (like the Dremora) are still in the game? Hopefully they'll be back and have a larger presence as in Morrowind (Temples and such).

And please let the Daedric armor and weapons be back, preferably looking like they did in Morrowind and not Oblivion!

I doubt they'd remove Daedric armour and weapons...

have you played oblivion lol, its whole story line revolves around daedric...stuff!

personally i hope that the daedra take a back seat in this game, i mean daedric ruins suited morrowind, but with the serene Scandinavian land scapes of skyrim, they would ruin the atmosphere imo.

I liked the way the daedric gear looked in Oblivion. I just didn't like the frequency that it appeared. I hope all the daedra remain - I can't wait to see how the artifacts come up. Skeleton key and Azura's star, here I come!

there really isn't much difference between the armor in the game except the morrowind helmet is a little more face-like and shows some skin around the joints, which is one reason I kinda dont like it, I want the dremora to seem as inhuman as possible, also I like the fact that Oblivions helmet glowed in the dark

I didn't mean a larger presence in that the main quest should revolve around them, but that (like in Morrowind) there were some temples dedicated to the Daedra. Instead of those stupid polished white marble statues that were just placed willy nilly in a flower field somewhere in Oblivion.

Maybe there could be a few side quests or freeform quests involving the Daedra, but I too don't want them to be a main part of the story, just as long as they're there.

After the end of Oblivion they probably won’t have much to do with the main quest. But Dadric Shrines and summoning have been as series staple, and I imagine they will still be in. I also hope they take Shivering Isles into account, perhaps a Jiggalag Shrine.

The reasons that there were temples dedicated to the Daedra was because the Chimer were Daedra worshipping until the Tribunal screwed everything up. So I doubt there would be ruins and temples dedicated to the Daedra like in Morrowind because from what I gather, the Nords do not follow Daedra at all if any.

And you think that the Hundred Oblivion gates that were opened is not enough deadric presence? (it was a little part of the main quest, but you didn't have to explore them)
even though there were only 5 worlds they were still huge and original, I loved the one with the other Oblivion gate in it, at a point I used it instead of fast travel

The way the Daedra were implemented in Oblivion svcked big time, they were nothing but your typical brutish enemy, in Morrowind they were more sophisticated and you could even interact a little with them. Exploring their shrines was really creepy too :)

I want lots of shrines and lots of Daedric quests, since they add great variety to the game. The Daedric quests were so much more interesting than the usual "collect five items of x" and "please save my daugher/brother/pet from dungeon y". But seriously, the Sheogorath quest from Oblivion will be a tough act to follow for the quest designers. That was amazing.^^

Just compare the default Daedric armor from Oblivion with the one from this mod that tries to make it more like in Morrowind:

what I am saying that it is still the same style, it doesn't necessarily have to be the same thing
it didn't really vary like dwemer and dwarven or glass between the games

Same style? The Morrowind variant looked more like some Asian samurai armor, whereas the Oblivion variant look like a generic demonic knight.

Don't get me wrong, I love Oblivion and it did some things (like combat and magic) better than Morrowind, but at the same time it was also a step backwards from the exotic designs and more intimate storyline from Morrowind.

see you are just looking at the helmet, which yes that would be aisian on morrowind, but from what I can tell they are both the same type of armor just less red
Morrowind looks like it is a little closer to roman, at least the platebody, the leggings and everything else is basically the same
its not asian, because typically that armor is better suited for running so you wouldn't have a solid platebody, also they would use stuff like scale armor or cloth

watch, in a few months, bethesda will reveal they've removed daedric quests, daedric armor/weapons, and all artifacts...

i mean, from the sounds of things around here, they've APPARENTLY already removed mysticism, several more skills, and even ATTRIBUTES, according to some people on here!

god, what next... the main quest?!

or, maybe they'll remove character creation and just throw us in the game as a nord?

eh, i really hope we get more details on this stuff before too long... the article should've used more details to explain everything... from all the vague crap i heard, it sounded like half of the game was stripped out, and nothing new was added, except dragons which will dynamically attack towns.

again, going by what i heard from people with the magazine on here...

...back on topic!

i highly doubt the daedra will come in LARGER numbers than last time, i mean three daedric princes were shoved right in our faces as well as entire huge armies of daedra... do you really expect skyrim to have more daedra than that show up when akatosh is having a fit and destroying the world?

In Morrowind, there were really only a few Daedra you could interact with in any way other than combat, and these were, with a few exceptions, quest related, the ones you could talk to didn't even have much to say and, in at least one instance (The one in he Maar Gan shrine.) saying what you were supposed to would lead to a fight to the death. Really, in that regard, little has changed.

Though I do miss the Daedric ruins. The single statue out in the wilderness setup of Daedric shrines in Oblivion just didn't have the same effect of the ominous, evil looking ruins filled with dangerous Daedra and cultists. The only shrine that even tried to do something similar was the one to Mehrunes Dagon, and it was probably only like that because it was supposed to be the Mythic Dawns base of operations, and even then, it still used the generic cave tileset with a few parts from fort ruins added in and some Mythic Dawn banners hung around it. You'd think with it being a dungeon that provides a fairly major turning point in the main quest, they could have done something a little more unique with it.

But I think we can safely assume that Daedra will be in Skyrim, they've been a stable of the series since they were created, after all. But I doubt they'll have a major appearance in the main quest, being as Bethesda already told that story. Most likely, they'll be done in a way that's more like Morrowind. They'll be there and they'll be part of the world, but not the main enemy you must face, some side quests might deal with Daedra, and I expect to see Daedric shrine quests, but for the main quest, it seems like dragons are going to be our main enemy after all.

I don't want Daedric armor to look like its counterpart in Morrowind, though, or like the Oblivion version, I want an original design that hasn't appeared in past games before, same with other armors. I liked the Daedric armor in both Morrowind and Oblivion, but there's no reason Bethesda shouldn't do something different for Skyrim, as long as it looks good and captures the demonic look I've come to expect from Daedric, I'll be pleased. If I want to see the Daedric armor from Morrowind or Oblivion, I can play either game, or if I want to see it recreated in Skyrim's graphics, I can wait for a mod to do so, just as Morrowind's Daedric armor was recreated in an Oblivion mod.

One thing related to Daedra I do hope returns in Skyrim, though, is Daedric dungeons like in Morrowind, because as I've said above, the statues out in the wilderness just seemed rather boring in comparison. The Daedric shrines don't necessarily have to look the same as the ones in Morrowind, as those ones were designed with Morrowind in mind, they might look a little out of place in Skyrim, though to be fair, looking out of place might not be a bad thing for Daedric shrines, because it would make them feel more alien, still, it would seem a little strange to see ruins like Morrowind's in Skyrim.

They don't have to have a big presence per se, but hopefully they will still be there and be a bit more fleshed out compared to just being the big bad generic villains from oblivion.

And whether the Nords worship the Daedra or not, there will always be Scamps/Daedroths/Dremora etc... in the world of the Elder Scrolls.

Maybe Jyggalag can have a shrine now?
