Are the Dawnguard evil?

Vampires aren't human. It wouldn't be cannibalism.

Then it's just another predator or undead that needs to be put down? It would be more of a reason to kill them. But either way, they're a person afflicted with an unusual disease, but also considered undead.

The bloody room.
Vampirism molds the body and kills it, thus transforming the individual into a different creature. Same could be applied for werewolves, in a way. The disease puts the body through a morbid metamorphisis.

And even if it were cannibalism, the Bosmer do it. Just because western society sees it as Taboo, doesn't mean it is "evil".

Whether you think its evil or not doesnt really matter too much since evil is a point of view, but in my op, the vamps are no different because of their disease than a lepper is due to theirs. As for the bloody room, Troid's timeline thing has got me thinking that was from before Isran got there.

Yep. Just like mortals are walking sacks of blood and flesh that serves to be devoured and drained, inch by inch, pint by pint. All the good reason to savor nutrition.

Imagine eating your favorite food.

Meaning you think that was reminiscent of the original Dawnguard, and not Isran?
No, I think it is hard to say without any references to it at all. It might have been like that since the last Dawnguard or it may have been used recently. The problem is that we do not know, though, as I said, I don't think they are above torturing vampires for information. I doubt Isran would do it for fun, he seems to be a much more practical man to do that and is probably more concerned with actually fighting the vampires than fun.

As for the whole Evil thing: I don't think the Dawnguard are Evil and I don't think they are Good. They are, as far as I am concerned, a Neutral faction set to do a job, which is protecting people from and hunting vampires. The people they protect will see them as good, while the people who are hunted will see them as evil.

Evil is subjective, my character that I made specifically for Dawnguard hates the vampires because they turned his family.

Well, mashed potatoes don't seem to mind me eating them. Anyway, then both sides are fighting for survival. Like I said, both sides are not evil, but are not fully good.

The Dawnguard are not evil in my eyes. Slightly fanatical? Perhaps, but it is to be expected. Vampires are one of the most dangerous Undead creatures, on par with a Lich.

What the Dawnguard does is, again, in my eyes, noble as well. Vampirism not only subjugates the body, it subjugates the soul. What happens to that soul? If a vampire is capable of entering the Soul Cairn, then it is likely their soul is condemned to a plane of Oblivion. And that may be fine for that person, but what about others who are forcefully or accidently turned? To allow such cruel blasphemy is an offense to every sentient being on Nirn, and we shall burn it away with stake and holy fire! Amen.

I'm sure if the deer were capable they would protect themselves from the wolves.
If my character sees a bear or sabre-tooth cat out in the wild, she hunts and kills it - because 1). it's a commodity, with furs and ingredients, and 2). it's a threat to her and others. The vampires treat her like prey, they get hunted too. Simple as. Not evil I think, just the way of life.
