Are the deathclaws easy or what?

Post » Mon Nov 22, 2010 11:47 am

Hey, so i wonder, did they make deathclaws in this game much much weaker? i mean, all it takes is around 50 sneaking, a suppressed sniper rifle and perhaps even the finesse perk to take down a death claw, i mean, by the time the deathclaw detects you, he probably already got 5 sneak criticals in his face and is about to die, and the best thing is the suppressor prevents other deathclaws from being alerted. what's all that rubbish about how dangerous deathclaws are? i had more trouble killing *some* humans than deathclaws.

Sooo you can kill a DC with sneak and a great weapon... what did you expect? Trying to take them out with anything less is...well trouble.

in F3 I found DC much easier where I could set mines and shoot the legs out to make them easy prey.

I do not at all think they're easy to kill. I didn't bring one down with easy until I hit level 15, and that was solely because Pingas Kahn was hopped up on Psycho, Steady and had an AMR with AP ammo. Even then it wasn't a one-shot kill.

They are a lot tougher, but that is why I carry my Gauss rifle in Deathclaw territory. :gun:

They are a heck of a lot tougher. Stop sneaking and go toe to toe and you'll see.

I was in the Quarry Junction and 1-shotted both the Deathclaw Alpha and Mother with 1 shot from my Gobi Scout Rifle.

I only have 30 gun skill.

Hey, i know what happens when a deathclaw hits you directly, you die in 3 hits no matter how tough and well-conditioned your power armor is, but then again, who the heck would attack a deathclaw face to face without having all the health and limb strength improving perks, 100 on unarmed and mele and being affected by over 10 chems?

I concur with that sentiment.

I find them tougher in this game. Seems like they can take a lot more damage. I was able to drop em pretty easy with the Terrible Shotgun in FO3.

If you had the Dart Gun, they were really easy. Pop 'em in the leg and watch 'em lurch around like Special Olympians.

I'm gonna call BS on this one. No way did you get a OHK with 30 gun with that rifle. Even with a head shot critical sneak attack.

well, i don't know if it matters that much, but i was doing it on very hard and hardcoe was toggled. but i guess it doesn't matter much since all that roleplaying junk is meaningless when you are sniping

Well, if you insist, i guess i could take my time to record a little sniping montage with craps *err i mean fraps*, but with my dying-from-slownesscancer internet connection, it will take an hour to upload the video to youtube

Playing as a cloaked sniper is considered role playing.

I was talking about the additional eat sleep and drink role playing features that come with the hardcoe mode, you cynical son of a biscuit.

I'm going to go with "or what". :)

First time I ran into them, I gave it three tries - going NW from one of the train stations, to get north of Sloan. Group of three Deathclaws, me with Veronica. Around lv16, with a Cowboy Repeater as my best gun. ~50 sneak, ~60 guns.)

Every time, they just slaughtered us before we could get more than a couple shots off. Blazingly fast, saw through my Stealth before I could see them, took down Veronica in a couple hits, etc.

Total massacre. :)

(Note, I'm on a low-end graphics card, so my view distances are turned down. Makes sniping things a bit harder, when you see red dots on the compass at 6 PER, and can't see the actual guy yet.)

So OP is sniping blind deathclaws from far away while in sneak mode with a silenced sniper rifle? Of course that's going to be easy. Blind deathclaws can't see worth crap, so the only way they can detect you is if you're in somewhat close proximity to them. It also doesn't help their case that whenever you shoot them from far away, they go into a frenzy trying to look for you.

Now if it was a regular deathclaw or higher up, after about 2 shots from your sniper, he would've found you and start running towards you. In the process, he'd also get the attention of some of his friends, I imagine.

AP rounds + good location to shoot from = dead deathclaws!
I noticed if I can manage to get into a good position and get a sneak attack in, then all is good. If there is any health left in the deathclaw when it gets to me, I'm toasted. ED-E is an ok diversion, and Boone helps too if he catches up with me...

Who said anything about blind deathclaws? i am killing deathclaws in the quarry junction, as far as i can tell, there are the regular ones, one alpha, one matriach , and a bunch of kiddies.

In FO3 the terrible shotgun to the face put one of those ugly sukers on a permanant nappy-poo in beddy-bye land. In NV however, getting that close is in my opinion in advisable. Im at lv 28 and taking one out is easy but only sniping. I have yet to face to face one like FO3 and live to tell about it!
