Are the DLC packs worth 20$ each?

Post » Sun Jun 23, 2013 12:43 pm

With summer vacation being what it is, I finally got around to finishing my first Skyrim playthrough and I want to start a new game immediately (I played as a thief - I want to try a two-handed warrior next). Except this time, I want the game to be even bigger, so I'm thinking about buying one or both of the DLC packs. Game review sites are famously unreliable, so even though Dawnguard got pretty middling reviews and Dragonborn got very solid ones, I wanted to ask you guys who've played through the DLC.

Thanks for your responses and advice!

They were both worth their price.

Dawnguard was $20? I don't remember paying that much when it went live on Steam. Dragonborn, however, I remember being $20 IIRC.

if your going to spend $60 total for the 3 DLC, $40 on DB and DG, you might as well just go buy the Legendary Edition, which comes with all the DLC, for $60.

Was about to say the same, plus you will get Hearthfire with it as well for free then. :)

Definitely worth it if you liked vanilla Skyrim, if not then you probably aren't going to want to pay that much for the DLC. I don't regret purchasing them at all, the DLC for this game has provided me with many hours of relatively cheap entertainment.

I don't see why it would be better to spend 60$ for a game I already have and a $5 DLC pack that I don't want instead of $40 for the other two DLC releases.

All I remember was that Hearthfire was like 5 dollars, I was like yeah! I can't remember the others, but 20 dollars sounds right, I can see 20 dollars for Dragonborn, Dawnguard, maybe 10 dollars! Hearthfire could actually be 10 dollars because I like building things

Dawnguard is worth $20. Dragonborn is fairly cheap for $20. They're worth the money if you like Skyrim. I would barely play Skyrim now if I didn't have the DLC.

Dragonborn is stupendous overall: items, quests, creatures, powers, people. Dawnguard has the best quest in the game according to me not to mention the new items. Hearthfire adds a great overhaul to the food system and includes new homes around the world which aren't bad. They're all worth the price coming from me.

If you need any more consolation, I'm buying the entire set again with the legendary edition for the PC.

I'd say they're worth it. Dawnguard adds in basically a new joinable faction which has a questline longer then any of the vanilla factions and a bunch of side missions. (It's really the size of what the vanilla factions should have been). Not to mention all the new equipment and spells, shouts and monsters added into dawnguard.

Dragonborn has a questline about the size of the vanilla factions (pretty short), but it adds in a landmass about the size of like one and a half skyrim holds, and a whole bunch of side missions, gear, monsters spells and whatnot.

They both add lots of content to the game in different forms.

I already have the base game (I got it for like, $10 bucks or something on a Christmas Steam sale in 2011). Legendary Edition costs $60 while Dragonborn, Dawnguard, and Hearthfire together cost $45.

It's just a suggestion. But it sounds like yer mind is made up. Regardless you'd still be getting more for $60 than you would for $45. If you dont want to spend $15-20 extra to have more, then buy less for $45. Your call.

I do not think that Dawnguard is maybe fifteen. Dawnguard is just an extended quest line with some extra features. Dragonborn is worth twenty.

I've always thought 20$ is a bit too much for DLC. Dragonborn was different since it was an entire new area and lots of hours (and Miraak is a total badass). But Dragonborn was so buggy that it wasn't worth it. Dawnguard really should've fallen into the 12-15 dollar category IMO

Same for any game. I hate how in most FPS titles these days, DLC is at least 15-20 $ for 4-5 tiny little maps.

Dragonborn was buggy for you? I only ran into one bug, but I could fix it.

Same here. I ran into one bug, but was able to fix it with a Fus-Ro-Dah.

And I thank you for the suggestion. But I wouldn't be getting more for $60 than I would for $45, I'd be getting exactly the same thing.

Dawnguard has a cool questline, and thats about it. I would say Dragonborn is worth much more. Its main questline is more epic, and you can explore a new landmass(even if it is small). Dragonborn also introduced new armors/weapons and clothes.

As far as bugs go, I only encountered one bug with Dragonborn, but I have constantly been faced with infuriating bugs during the dawnguard questline.
