Are the Graphics a major disappointment?

What we've seen has been very limited, but it looks to my like it is comparable to a really souped up version of oblivion. Better textures and effects, etc. so, I will wait and see, but It doesn't look too impressive.

What are you smoking dude, the picture on page 49 looks as good if not better than some of the souped up versions of crysis dude. From a purely polygonal standpoint the models are just jaw dropping.

Honestly, lower picture on page 49 of the GI I CAN'T TELL A FLIPPING DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THEM AND A REAL LIFE STILL

Self Shadowing on everything? Including Objects? Check.

Great Character Models with completley revamped facial models and emotion animation? Check.

High Res Textures? Check.

Amazing Draw distance? Check.

Improved tree's and tree Physics? Check.

Improved water? Check.

And we still havent seen any of it in motion, or in proper direct feed for that matter.

This game will look amazing. Especially on PC.

Holding out hope for some DX11 stuff like tessellation. (AvP had it, didn't talk about it when first announced, and is multi plat, same with Metro 2033)

I hope it brings my PC to its knees. So when I revisit it in a few years with new hardware i still get that wow factor! xD

From what I saw, I think the game is beautiful. I honestly could not find a single thing in that whole article that dissapointed me in the slightest bit. Graphics, gameplay, features, combat. I literally squealed like a little girl who just saw Justin Beiber, and for a large, bearded man, that is not something that comes naturally to me.

I have been amazed by the graphics, I have seen them first hand (not first hand but in higher quality than scans) in the magazine and they look great. Those scans look terrible and in no way do the graphics justice.

So far everything is looking good, I am rarely impressed by game announcements, or any of the new games these days. The new art direction is fantastic, the new characters look great. Forests that actually look like forests, cities that feel like actual cities. The new AI sounds great, the random quests sound good also, looking forward to playing through this with a few different character builds.

This is one of the most impressive game announcements in a long time. Everything sounds like it's on track.

Great job Bethesda.

Good, maybe we can spread the word so people aren't up in flipping arms about all this

anybody reading this should do the same and calm down.

Been thinking about the graphics from the scans and you know what? I don't think they tell us anything.

Some images are clearly concept art, some will be staged promotional shots taken at some point during the development of the game and not necessarily even part of the current game build. Correct me if I'm wrong but nowhere do I see an "actual in game screen shot" caption and even if I did there is no reason to assume the current build is a true representation of the final build.

Didn't Ob lose its shadows somewhere between the first released images and the final release? I'll wait for actual, pukka, in game footage, even then we wont know for sure until the final game is released.

The graphics were about what I was expecting, remember that this game is going to be made for current generation consoles so that essentially sets a graphical ceiling which cannot be exceeded otherwise there maybe be too much pressure on the console systems. Furthermore, graphics weren't my largest concern, animations were. Hopefully when we see some actual gameplay footage we'll be able to make an assessment as to whether the new animations are good and whether the new graphics are fitting.

They're not bad, but especially when I heard that its a completly new engine I expected a bit more than just improved Oblivion looks.

Do you mean art style or on a tech level? I think its a pretty huge leap considering its the same 6 year old hardware Oblivion ran on.

For me in the Screens it looks like a improved Fallout 3, which was an improvement of Oblivions Graphics. But still its not what I expected. I thought it would be next gen graphics

Just saw the HD scans and man, I am blown away. I'm a graphics [censored] and I can tell they're using graphic features that I really like. Soft shadows, hi res textures, high poly models, particle effects, huge draw distance and great post processing effects. I'm really mind blown and didn't think it would look so good as this! You who are dissapointed have just been thinking too hard about this game and fantasies-ed of how it will look. It will never look as good as it does in your mind. It's a game. On current gen consoles. So yes, this looks freakishly amazing.

I honestly think Beth did the best they could with their resources. Sorry folks but you cannot expect more from the current gen. Wait till 6 if you're not appeased.

The pictures are ok but games always look far better on a HD monitor

Frankly, I don't see any of that. I am a bit disappointed about the waterfall and the overall texture quality, but it's hard to judge unless we see it in motion.

I can't even believe that someone would say that the graphics are bad. The art style is awesome.

I'm sure they'll be fine, I'm more interested in the performance side of the graphics question than the cutting edge make a graphics card weep quality really.

How bad is the pop in?
What's the quality of the LOD?
is everything coated in dayglo vaseline again?
etc.

They're good. The characters finally look nice, and there's shadows on everything. It's pointless to compare it to games like Crysis, where nothing special goes on in the background (Like AI schedules).

Not to say that they can't be better, but it's supposed to run on the consoles as well.

What I'm mostly curious about at this point are the quality of the animations, and the distant land.

From what I've seen the graphics are good.

I'm kind hoping for it to not be too intensive, I can't afford a new PC anytime soon, I've only got a 9800GT now. Though remembering it needs to run on consoles, which I'm pretty sure run around the same level as my PC, and have less RAM, so I'm not too worried.
